From the big table commonly available (maybe even posted in this thread)
    S312 = 6.38" ring gear, 3.909 ratio and open, 2 pinion centre.

Sounds identical to an aus-spec sprinter diff, only with 2 pinions rather than 4.

Hi, some pretty good stuff here, so Im going to take the opportunity to ask a Q in hope of the lazy way out....

I have a 73 TA22 (presumably 4.1:1 diff) which sits on around 3k to 3.5k rpm at around 100km/hr (60mph in my car) so I would like to stick in a diff with higher gearing which would make it better for highway use..... Anyone know what will fit with minimal effort? Saves having to do the hard work myself if someone already knows.....

    Cheers!

If you had read up you could have correlated the information between your TA22 and other series of diffs.

That said, you do have a T-series diff, and T18s will fit. They are a 3.9. Expect it to be sluggish around town though.

Give you sprinter some more poke with a 4.1 ratio from a 4x4 tercel wagon AL25.

I once had an AE-71 wagon. Leaf sprung, drum braked S seies in a 3.909 ratio. I fitted an MA-45 T series diff to my AE-86, also a 3.909 ratio. In the paddock I have a Corona RT-142 IRS diff housing, F series, which I am 99.995% certain is ALSO a 3.909, will check this in the next week. Have a manual SA-63 and auto RA-60, both T series, both 3.909 (sigh). Am soon to aquire a 4.1:1 ratio from an auto RA-40. T series. And I ripped a centre from a Cressida which I swear is a T series, 3.707 ratio. No idea if it was auto or manual.

    cheers

Brett, are you still updating this? If so, are you purely after RWD specs or is it open to 4WD specs as well?

    Hi,

Good stuff, but alas I can't give rep to the same post twice

The RA23 and RA25 and RA28 in your tables are partially correct. The GT/GTV variants of the RA23/28 had the F-series 313 LSD. The ET, LT and ST models only had the T-series non-LSD.

Same for the RA25.... where the GT had the F-series 313 LSD and the ST had the T-series non-LSD. There was no ET, LT or GTV in the RA25/TA27 series.

adding all these exotic celica breeds and their diff ratios....

the only person that will look for the GTV/ET RA28 diff ratio is you

regardless, the information is still valuble. so,
PM norbie for a account and password in his database. add them all there .

i think we got everything from this draft table in there + more now .

    MX10, MX12 were E series. MX22 auto is E312.

MS65 had Borg Warner diffs. AMI built MS55s had Borg Warners too.

Pretty sure most/all those early Corollas (KE1x, KE2x) have U series diffs in them. After that they had Borg Warners or U series depending on whether they were made in Japan or AMI.

RT81 had a Borg Warner or S series diff depending on whether they were made here or in Japan.

MX13 are F 7.5 series open 3.909 as well. Fine/large spline as used in Corona GT/Celica GT

Stephos tables have much of this stuff but it would be nice to have it ina PDF file and one which we can add edit and share with each other.

The table should allow us to compare diff centres with the view of interchanging and compatibility. For this you also need the axle spline dimensions.

    2 cents.
