General consensus is that the bluetop bigports are 3-rib/18/40mm, red/blacktop bigports are 7-rib/20/42mm. Most references will back this up, the club4AG one seems to be the main odd-one-out.

    So in conclusion:

You should be able to put a G head on a GZ block. Block up the injector wholes, get a manifold for your carbs and tune the fucker.

    Then start on the 86!

As long as the GE head is a 16v then yes they will fit.

Yes Adam if you have a look at how Toyota codes their engines you will see that the F stands for econermy head (or something of that description) and the G's are there sport head.

The G heads are made with a wider angle of the valves in the cylinder head.

Here is a good reference that explains it well:

F series have one timing belt gear external with the alternate cam driven by a gear inside the rocker box.....also as rhyno has stated the F is for economy as opposed to the G for performance although that is another topic for debate due to valve angle and flow characteristics.

the F block appears to be the same as the early 3 rib............i have a G 16v small port head sitting on a 4AFC block - no problems. but yes, 18mm/40mm.
