um mine runs 30psi running temp and roughly 75~80 psi old, i wouldnt say its too high. search 3sgte oil pressure, its always up and down depending on peoples engines etchope this helps
hello have just built a celica bit of a managary of parts with gen2 block gen3head garrett t04s all new and rebuilt fresh motor and have high oil pressure it is at 85psi cold idle with penrite running in oil 15wt. this seems excesivly high but have been told it is about right? i have had to restrict oil feed to turbo from 1.5mm to .5mm as it was chuffing heaps out the exhaust wheel and smokeing more then me. i know am closeing up the oil feed heaps from stock oil feed being like 1/4" and shimed the relife valve in oil pump which i sort of regret doing now and mains plasti gauged to 2thou wish i gone for more like 2.5 thou mains if i knew it was going to do this any thoughts from 3sgte guys out there???? looks like i'll be running 0wt60 oil to help lower oil pressur any help apreciated

Paulioq,
On a 3tgte I recently had rebuilt with on the tighter side of factor tolerances, going from large turbo feed to 0.8mm feed, and blocking (by using aftermarket parts) four holes in the con rods my oil pressure was off the scale 85-90psi idle and off the guage to the point I blew up two guages, and blew the seals out of two oil filters.
My problem after lots of stuffing around was that the alloy oil pump body was worn and the pressure relief valve was sticking. Your shimming is not helping either, all this does is increase pressure => more heat and potentially less flow (depending on pump).
Remove shim, inspect pressure relief, and iff necessary change oil pump body.

yah hmm seems like a comen problem with garretts on toyota's i have used all new parts and i do have a leak around my oil filter (beleave it to be shitty old orings i used i have new ones on the way) i havent blocked of any ports but used eagle rods whic i do think dont use the internal gudgeon pin oiler through process of design being a forged item and have piston squirters as well not familure with 3tgte. i have used all new oil pump. i work with all sorts of pumps in my field of work and flow is detirmend by pipe or in this case galery flow. usually have 2 options with fluid delivery high preasure through a small pipe or low preasure through a larger diamerter pipe if sized acordingly will deliver same amount of flow but by throtleing the flow with a restricted oil feed to turbo and high preasure i can be sure all parts are oiled adequitly. this will be a back pressure issue and i do regret shiming the oil pump. but even removing shime will not lower it that much or raise it that much reason for shiming is to make sure under full revs oil is geting to top of head and not dumped out the bypass so still a nesisary evil, the whole problem lies in restricted oil feed i belive. it needs a larger drain pipe so it is posible to run a larger oil feed oriface and in turn will lower oil preasure. but it is high due to 15wt runing in oil i think i will have to run hpr5 in it and this will allow it to have less preasure due to specific gravity of oil, lubrication will be the same due to viscosity. hmm ppl be warned about useing restricted oil feeds on toyota engines. with stock turbo oil line use to have not enough presure now i got to much presure lol isnt it ironic. didnt some one right a song about that![]()
dont touch it as gen 4 3sge run over 100 lbs when cold and are about 80 when hot .it has oil squirters ,oil cooler and vvti all from std motor
also are you taking oil pressure from back of head or block
am takeing it from head where original oil sensor is i have tee'd of there for oil feed to turbo so i dont starve engine of oil am runing after market oil cooler but have it disconected for runing in process. hmm intresting 100psi stock have been told its right by few reputable ppl so started post to see what thoughts were of ppl who have played with them and are familure with these engines in modified form
the gen 4 3sge takes oil pressure from the sump near the pump and the oil pressure hole at the head is blocked off .as by the time the oil pressure is dropping there your bottom end would be stuffed
hmm sounds like it takes preasure befor it feeds all oil ports and piston coolers on gen4 and am takeing reading after everything is oiled so still got a high oil pressure problem. will run a bigger oil drain line off turbo so i can run a biger oil feed oriface and post the results once done
