These cars have usually been personalised over the years so emblems/trim/running gear cant be relied on to tell what it is.

Only way to tell what model is from the ID plate - if its an early car this will be beside the distributor on the inner wing, on later cars on the firewall beside the hood latch.

If its an early GT (before August 1972) the model code will be TA22-MQ-GG.

If its a later GT (after August 1972) the model code will be TA22-MQ-GG for JDM cars or TA22-MQ-YY or TA22R-MQ-YY or TA22R-MQ-YYR for export cars.

Cheers for that Mike, I'm going to call into the wof testing centre i was going to take the car to and ask them about the rust as im pretty sure the sills and pillars around the front and rear screens would be counted as structural rust, if thats the case then ill flag this car as i wont be able to drive it back to chch legally. you wouldnt happen to know anything about the standards and areas that are considered structural in nz? i know the chassis/underbody/firewall and and i would assume pillars and sills aswell?

    Matt,

If it doesnt have a WOF and has rust its going to be expensive even at mates rates. Remember what you can see is the tip of the iceberg.

Rust in sills and screen pillars is usually a WOF fail.
