inspection hole and slave cylinder mount in bellhousing says its not a W series box
Based on the photos supplied here

I believe the gearbox below is an R154 from an MA70, not a JZ variant.
Can anyone else confirm?
Shifter pin location
Intermediate webbing not present on top.

- ma61 + 2jz-gte + v160 + 3.5 torsen
I just bought one of these.. It's def is a toyota r154 gearbox
whats the bellhousing?
definitely R154, slave cylinder mounting amongst other things gives it away
shifter is in the right position for an A70 chassis too
Now - 1988 GX81 Mark II- 7MGTE, GT35R, TiAL 44m, Microtech, 550cc injectors, R154, Xtreme clutch, LSD.... Low boost tune done = 330rwhp@1 BAR...
Then - 1989 MX83 - The big scrap heap in the sky...
Here's a link to one on ebay for a r154 with a 7m bellhousing. It's had to tell the 1j and 7m bellhousing apart

I'm not sure what your question is.
The topic asks if it's an R154 or not. The answer is YES, it's an R154.
The post asks if it's a 1JZ box or a 7M box. I'll have to leave that for the other guys to confirm.
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....
the bellhousing should have a m or a j stamped on it in the part that bolts to the engine. hard too see but its there from memory just above where the starter bolts on on the face that meets the engine? akso jz bellhousing steps down on the starter side the m series bellhousings are flat across the top.
So yup its a R154 and its the M series variant

sorry for not clarifying.
The box came from a MK3 supra.
Was trying to confirm whether it was R154 or W5x.
9/10 supras MK3 supras in UK are MA70 not JA70.
Guy who had it never worked on a JA70 so its an MA70 R154.
Thank you Toymods!
