That was my concern when I first saw Ed's setup, however I never heard him complain.

That could be an issue with high alternator loads like you say, but in my case I doubt there would be much of a drama. The Hilux is rather simple when it comes to electrics.

Thats about the same wrap around as a JZ engine, so i see no issue.

Takai, i just checked my JZ engine & it definately has noticeable more belt wrap than ED's setup, i would say its about the same as factory 1UZ setup, which makes sense as well as they both run a 6PK belt ..

One way to tell is to run a setup like ED's put it under medium loads & occasional high loads for a while, then shut it down & check the temperature of the pulleys, if they have been slipping they will be very hot, if not they will be quite ok temp wise & good set up to use ..

You'd be surprised just how much load goes on an alternator when the battery is half flat, the headlights are on, and a pair of thermo's kick in.

Yeah i did what Ed did but with a full alloy fabricated pulley...local machinist whipped it up.

The factory 1UZ has at least 180deg of wrap on the alternator.

i did squeal with the 875 belt when the rad fans initially kicked in, then gripped again, and stopped. the 875 belt did put the tensioner right at the softest end of its throw though. i then tried an 855 belt and have zero slip problems. the tensioner still has more spring travel left, but its much better

Any comments on the pros and cons of permanently removing the front covers off the engine, thereby getting rid of several unwanted components? Can it be a bad thing having the cam belt exposed?
