my 2 cents again...

on a side note i got 2 parts on Tuesday from those 2 who Ella bought from, and both parts were exactly as advertised, and arrived on time (Qld to SA), so my experience was good.

correction, 1 part is not correct!! i am not happy at all either, have made a call to get it sorted, yet to get an answer (this is on a ssaturday)

24hrs later (sunday) Gordon has now got back to me - he has accidently sent wrong part - ra60 instead of ra23/28, has apologised profusely, and is going to send down the correct part, and even offered to pay for my postage to post the incorrect part back up.

now happy again, pending receipt of correct part.

so all it took was a phone call...

Good to hear.

Maybe, if Ben checks out the RC/RG engine and, assuming it's an RC block and some internals, you can go back and get it sorted as well?

It appears Gordon is happy to correct mistakes, and if that's the case then maybe that is a viable option. Not sure if he has any 18R-Gs about... mostly 2T-G's IIRC.

yup Gordon is a 2tg and ta22 man. He'll openly admit he doesnt know much at all about the 18rg. Don't think he ad anything else 18r related. But I'm happy to help with ut all where I can

There are a lot of guys who know 18R-G's on these forums so I am sure you will find the help and assistance you need. Gorgon Does have other 18RG's listed as part of the Celica Spares business he is selling on ebay so I would at least look at your options.

TheToyman75 is right, Gordon has a lot sale on eBay selling everything for $50K and dediated the idea to sell it all to Toymods. Hope we haven't gone too far.

Thanks for the faith in me guys. Yes the motor is currently stripped down in my shed. The pistons are definatly 18rc pistons as per photos comparing the two in this.thread and the rods again are 18rc items again going on pictures from earlier pages here.

Nothing has actually been said as to what makes it a non 18rg bottom end. Everyone has just jumped to conclusion

Do you know where the engine number is? It's just behind the dissy.


If it starts with the number 18R 95xxxxx it's a twin cam block.

99% sure that's an rg block. 18rc block when reading from the dizzy side the writing is the right way up. Urs is upside down.

willofan, I have been thinking about making(mose-so getting my engineer mates to make) something like this for my 18rg, however mine is running very nicely at the moment so I don't want to take it apart to take measurements. If anyone has a buggered slipper I can get access to? - or if someone can give me some accurate measurements of the top timing chain system - i'm very keen to make the thing.

Yeah I have one or two send me pm of address and Ill send you one up from 18RG, will be interested to see how you go.
Does the original timing chain fit with the new idler gear or do u need a specially made longer chain?

Correct me if I am wrong but the pistons in the pic don't look like the 9.7 18RG pistons that I remember, (it has been a few years)
but they do look like lower compression 18RGEU pistons.

I thought the 18RG pistons had an assymetric raised section, I will take a photo of my old block tomorrow.

Both my 18RGs begin with 95 engine number and 5 more digits and the numbers are stamped upside down because its hard to read the number for RWC purposes you have to lean over the engine and shine a torch down between the carbies.

Ok, so as per before in my previous posts i have compared pics found on this forum of 18R-G pistons and rods and photos of 18R-C pistons and rods comparing the two and i even went to the trouble of taking the laptop down to the shed to doubly make sure i was correct. As its not the sort of accusation one makes unfounded.

I am not in the slighttest bit interested in having roadkill, toyboy or any others of his friend circle "visiting me at home", thanks for your offer but ill fix this myself. Im taking it on the chin as a loss. But im cutting them here.
If you dont believe me about the bottom end then thats fine, to be honest two poops is what i dont give.

Thanks to the offers i have recieved by pms and posts for help in getting together a set of all the right stuff to re make her back to original specs (bar the block of course but thats not really a issue unless we are being rather pedantic).

At the end of they day for what i paid i still got a half decent deal, and i can sort of use what i have here. No point dwelling on the past, it happened ill deal with it.

Stay tuned for what happens next in this sordid little saga, haha.
