eeeek, for that price I would get power steering arms. It should be ok as I am guessing the ae86 guys will have some spare after the power steering arm upgrade.

Well when all this is done I should at-least have informed people about all the smaller details of this conversion.

i think mine were 250+180 for adj lower control arms. helps with bump steer

the length of the lower control arms shouldn't affect the bump steer because the steering arm length is automaticly adjusted to suit.

well I have one more local guy who I did a crossmember for and I also will try and finish off the steering column tomorrow. This guy is going to test his car by towing it around an open area!

As a rough summary I have the TA22 crossmember for which I need to make a new engine mount attachment for on my jig. But I am behond on my 20V parts and I basicly need a few weeks off which I am not going to get.

Ok, here is my rack and pinion as it currently stands.

    KE70 crossmember, shortened
    KE70 rack, equally shortened
    KE70 rack ends
    TA22 control arms
    TA22 steering arms.

The crossmember has had a piece cut out of the very middle of it, then rewelded (tacked) back together. Then the steering rack is totally dismantled for machining.

The external tube can be removed from the gear/worm drive housing and then shortened, once done it presses back into the housing. The rack shaft has also been shortened on the passenger side, then rethreaded and remachined. On the passenger end after the drive gear stops it's just a solid bar, so there is enough meat to shorten it. The thread needs to be retapped so you can bolt the rack end back in, and the spanner sides machined in so it can be held and tightened.

The result, it's basically the same as a KE70 in terms of geometry, only narrower. You can see the relative position of the LCA pivot and rack pivot in the photos. Since ackerman is determined mostly by steering arms it remains basically unchanged. It will however be slightly different (for the better) as a result of the more linear movement of the rack in comparison the the steering box. Bump steer also remains unchanged, and will retain slight toe in on compression.

Still to be done is some gusseting and reinforcing of the crossmember, then cleaning, painting, and installation of new bushes and ball joints.

    Enjoy!

awesome work, the only thing is the TA22 steering arms are pretty long, might limit the amount of lock you have as well as make you have a high amount of turns lock to lock. However a person of your skill could just mod the inner tie rod ends for more lock but you will still have a higher turn to movement ratio, however that's just personal taste and you might like it.

Other than that looks like you did a top notch job and I see no reason why it won't work great

All kudos to Linden for the work.

We did comment on the lock but as you can see the control arms have stoppers which you could modify/remove, and the steering arms have an adjustable lock bolt. Will have to see how much movement the rack has before changing anything here though.

yeah but I don't think they will have any issues because I think the rack itself will limit the lock before that due to the longer length of the arms.
