) you're subscribed to that thread, until you unsubscribe yourself manually. Most of the time what I do is go into the User CP (another invaluable tool) and it tells me what replies I've gotten to certain threads that I'm subscribed to. I guess a lot of people would find this the convenient way to keep up as well. If people kept up with their threads this way (either useless banter or useful write-up's and handy info), it wouldn't really matter whereabouts you actually put that thread into, eg. a sub-forum or like TooF suggested, at the bottom of the page as a sticky.
