Seperate section for "dedicated" threads?

What i was getting at is that I have noticed there are certain members that ONLY post in the one thread and don't generally venture out into the wider community.

This might be because they don't really see the need to. A lot of people on here only own one type (make/model/year) of Toyota, and that's all they really see merit in extracting info from, by posing questions in the relevant "dedicated" threads. Not everyone is into Track Talk, not everyone races their car or has a daily driver and a track car which they never seem to stop doing work to, and also not everyone goes on (or can't attend) cruises and the like. Some just find a result in a Google search about a specific type of Toyota, pertaining to the issue they're looking up, and then they decide that they wanna come on here and ask various questions about their car instead of just the one issue. I know plenty of people who have been like that.

For those interested in searching for things to do with a SPECIFIC Toyota, inside each and every thread on this forum there is a little section in the lower red menu that says "Search this Thread" and I've found this to be an invaluable tool when going through threads as long as ones like the Dedicated ST162 thread.

I also see merit in moving these to a sub-section in General forums, but by doing this (as mentioned before) you're segregating a certain type of Toyota ie. make/model/year, etc. and thereby making more work for the admin's.

Those who suggested to make the various tech bits 'n' pieces (however scattered they seem) to be put into the Tech and Conversions forums, I agree with the idea, but again it's making more work and doubling-up in most cases. Someone who wants to find a particular piece of advice or a write-up on something to do with their car will find their particular issue within a search of the Tech and Conversions forums, but also they'll just as easily find it inside of a Dedicated thread where the people that are a part of that thread are more readily going to help you out instead of waiting for days sometimes before you can get an answer on something.
Obviously this won't work for everyone, as there's always going to be someone who'll own a RAV4, a Tarago or a Hi-Ace for example, and there aren't going to be too many people to ask questions to about a certain area of concern with their car, because not a lot of people will modify cars like that, there's a lack of people who own those cars, etc.

Also, I've noticed that once you post on a certain thread, (unless I'm mistaken here ) you're subscribed to that thread, until you unsubscribe yourself manually. Most of the time what I do is go into the User CP (another invaluable tool) and it tells me what replies I've gotten to certain threads that I'm subscribed to. I guess a lot of people would find this the convenient way to keep up as well. If people kept up with their threads this way (either useless banter or useful write-up's and handy info), it wouldn't really matter whereabouts you actually put that thread into, eg. a sub-forum or like TooF suggested, at the bottom of the page as a sticky.

actually, someone else linked me to a totally unrelated post on that page, and i just noticed the humour in it...

Well it seems as though my idea has recieved support from almost everyone, so when's it gonna happen???? Trawling these threads for tech info can be done any time, let's just get them out of the way for now, there's 8 threads on the first half of the page with well over 1000 posts each that seem to viable candidates for relocation.

I think that the seprate threads are needed! They should have tech on model specific in them! like a tech tip on putting an intercooler on an AW11 is going to be no use to anyone but an MR2 etc and as the search engine isnt the best it would be easy for someone to find tech on aw11 if it was in the aw11 thread.
Tech sould be for things that can be used genrally or if the is no Model thread for that car etc.
This would save a lot of bandwidth with double posting pics in car specific thread and also in tech or genral if there is pictures that go with it.

The way i think it would work better is!

P.S with a model specific Tech thread stickied at the top of model specific threads.

Tech layout

Model specific thread
1.suspension
2.engine if its not used by another model
3.exlusive engine mods that are for specific car{ i.e intercooler setup,short shifter,relocating battery, changing fuel pumps etc etc}
4.Wheels as they have there own offset etc
5.Brakes if there not the same as another models setup.
6.Rollcage

There is model specific stuff that would make it easier for people to find if it was put in model specific threads.

I think it would be a real shame to get rid of the dedicated threads, yes they do tend to get whored up with crap, but if they are taken away, said crap will just move somewhere else...I get the feeling there will be a lot more pointless noob threads in General, and the keyboard warriors will come out and jump all over them.

I say put up a vote for a week or so, with all the proposed options and see what everyone has to say.

yeah I'll second that.

mick if you wanna round-up your 2c to 5c, then you'd better make it 3c then... that will round-up to 5c, but 2c if you round it will go to 0c.
