    Default For sale thread

I understand the rules state that we are not allowed to post links to ebay auctions or other for sale sites etc, but I was wondering if a seperate section could be made in the For Sale area specifically for these types of things?

THe reason I ask is because I've come across as absolutely awesome deal on a car, and I know that the owner isn't interested in going through the rigmarole of joining Toymods solely to post it up for sale. I've found a few good cars for sale at reasonable prices but have never been able to put them up due to the Toymods rules.

If another section was made (maybe titled "External Sales" or something similar), we could post links for these sales and they wouldn't clutter up the regular For Sale thread, but still allow those in the Toymods community the ability to see them.

    Cheers

hmm 2 arguments to add to this.
first: if this person was serious about selling their car, they would in fact sign up to give the car as much chance to sell as they could, if they are too lazy to do that then that is the owner's fault and to their detriment for not publicising the car in many places so tough luck to them. heck it costs less to do that than post on ebay anyway
second: do we really want a person here that is a fly by nighter that signs up soley to sell a car (or someone who does it for parts) only to never return...cheers for contributing.

all of us here should be able to work out how to go to ebay or yahoo, trading post, ozauction or whatever if they were looking for a part, car or whatnot, the links we only ever get on here from these types of sites VERY RARELY lead to someone here buying something, they are usually posted to just have 27 responses all saying "schwing, wow, abomination, why, tell em they're dreaming etc." so really if WE were serious about looking for something we would already be there looking anyway.

it would be good if you could set your FOR SALE thread as an option to be viewed by non-toymods members.

i wish this could be done for my members rides thread also.

some cars are very special and you would have no problem selling them to a toymods member, but sometimes i just want to sell my old corrola, there is nothing special about it i just want it gone, and as a toymods member i would like to sell it to anyone; its not like anyone would fight over it.

i think that sometimes its the members who suffer, and like the members rides thread there are heaps of people i know who would like to view my members rides thread because they know me personally, not because they are that into toyotas or even cars; so they wont even bother signing up to view one thread.

I think you just answered your own question....yes they could join and post their car up for sale, but the chances are that the posts in regard to their sale would be the only ones they make.

I've no doubt that the majority of ebay and cardomain sales are easily accessible and could be found by any monkey with a computer, but what about those cars for sale of smaller forums that aren't well known - say the Cairns car foum, the Byron Bay cruisers forum or whatever??? They might never get seen.

All I'm saying is that I think it would be good to give Toymodders a chance at these cars that they wouldn't otherwise get. Especially one like the one I want to post currently.

The Main reason that not Ebay adds are allowed (unless it is your add) is because the Toymods Car Club has Rules in regards to how the classifieds are used.

The main rule in question is that adds in the classifieds are to be for your own items and not selling on behalf of other people. It wouldn't take long for people to abuse that and start posting random ebay stuff up that their mates are selling, and this in turn opens the forum users up to dodgy sales which is one of the reasons the new sign up system was put in place so that there may be some chance of recourse for the buyer. External sales completely screw this up. The Toymods board is trying to offer some protection to the forum users from this type of activity.

If someone is in the market for a particluar vehicle and they have the cash ready they will no doubt be looking everywhere they can to find said vehicle. So people who are already interested will probably know about it already.

do you think we should just give our money to another club or maybe we could use the feedback section here to express new ideas and such that we believe would help the toymods community.

who exactly are you trying to reach? the general public?
there are many online and offline trading options...
toymods classifieds is for within the toymods community... if you want to sell to people outside toymods.. why not just advertise outside toymods?

i am not sure what point you are trying to argue?
that the general public can browse the toymods free for sales service?
that toymods members can re-advertise things for people that can't be bothered becoming members?

what do you propose is the benefit to toymods by allowing non-toymods forum users to use the classifieds section (remember that part of the reason for the "new" toymods was the abuse of the for sale section)

and yes your opinion is worth mentioning here, but if you don't like the way toymods is set up, you are free to give money to other clubs (surely you can afford to be a member of more than one club?), or to give money to places like the trading post?

you can sell just any old corolla anywhere.
if you wan tto sell it to just "anyone" put some signs on it, put it on ebay, put it in trading post.. someone will buy it.

as for the members ride threads... if you have so many mates that are inconvenienced by having to sign up, stop being a bastard to your mates and make a free webpage for it

that ANYONE can view it.. anyone at all...

perhaps there is some part of your service agreement with toymods that i have missed?

the part where i make suggestions that i think will improve things here?

i think that is my responsibility.

if it comes to that it is not a good idea then so be it, at least it has been discussed.

but ideas make the world go around and why should anyone keep their mouth shut when they think things can be improved?

i have lots of reasons as to why i would rather sell my car here or not make a "website" for my members rides thread, just because you dont understand those reasons doesnt mean you should assume they are not valid. people arnt just making suggestions for the hell of it, if you cant see a reason as to why they might want something changed then stay the hell away, it doesnt have to inconvienince you if someones ideas are implememnted. you can ask to help or you can discuss your reason for it being a bad idea but dont just come here and poo-poo everyones idea straight off the bat just because you are bored.

if this was an easy option in the forum software then of course it would happen, otherwise i hope it will be discussed appropriately.

PJ...it's the Toymods way...You're forgetting that.

OC, what I am suggesting is not
    - that the general public can browse the toymods free for sales service?
    - that toymods members can re-advertise things for people that can't be bothered becoming members?

I am suggesting that if WE, as Toymods forum and/or car club members, find a TOYOTA or TOYOTA ENGINED vehicle which may be of interest to other Toymods forum and/or car club members, we be allowed to post a link or scan of an ad up for that vehicle.

Did it occur to you that there are people who don't know what Toymods is? That there are people who do, but even though they've applied for membership have been knocked back?? (I applied three times, and each time filled out the forms the same. It wasn't until on the fourth time I said I was referred by blake (IN05NT) that my membership was approved - So don't go saying that's it's easy and anyone is approved as long as they fill the forms in correctly because that isn't true).

I thought the reason behind making the "Toyotas for Sale" forum free for any member to post in (without the need for certain qualifying criteria based on length of membership or posts or rep) was in order to give Toymodders the opportunity to see Toyotas for sale for the betterment of the community. How is this different? It just ensures that a slew of new members interested only in selling their car don't join and then piss off after the car is sold. It also ensures that a car which may otherwise have gone unnoticed by the Toymods community is put out for show so that others may have the option to buy it.

I genuinely don't see how that can be detrimental to the site or the club. In fact, as I see it as being the direct opposite.

sorry i should have been more specific.. i was replying to teh Juan.....

whilst i agree with your logic, i also agree with what lambolica wrote above...
in order to prevent abuse and general dodginess, you can only sell your own stuff.

if i see something special out there.. i usually PM the people who are most likely to be interested.. or know who would be interested.

what ground rules would you want to see for say.. a single thread to link to outside advertised cars? only other club sites? ebay? drive.com.au or wherever? trading post? or just any car advertised anywhere?

I don't know who was doing sign ups at that time but I can tell you now that you still shouldn't be approved from what I can see in your profile.

I do all the sign ups now and I don't even look at the reference or car type.

Actually, it's piss easy to successfully apply to be a forum member. Sadly, most people seem to be too stupid, arrogant or just a plain smart arse and don't follow the application properly.

Being on the Board I now get to see the emails from people who are rejected. Mostly they get all upset and abusive, and complain they've done it correctly and we're all nazis. Then, they send an email and say "oh I forgot my surname, or I forgot my address". Some people are so fucking stupid I don't know how they breathe.

Sorry to go OT, but I'm going to jump on anyone who whines about being rejected 'cos it all boils down to them forgetting something or doing something stupid on their form - and then have the ignorance and audacity to slag us for it.

Please oh please Kirsty, won't you tell me why I shouldn't have been approved? The only thing I can see anyone having issue with is my occupation ("Workin' for the man"). Doesn't seem too far removed from River's "nothing really".
