What you have to realise is that the general car talk is exactly that GENERAL.

So just make a new one SPECIFIC car talk and put all the current dedicated threads in there.

There is way too much of a community spirit to be lost by banning these "dedicated" threads.

I agree that there is sometimes a lot of crap in there but so there is in alot of that in the general car talk anyway.

If you want to talk tech specific go there and moderate the crap out of it.

Maybe there could be some better / other sub heading / topics but really its what you get used to eh ??? If i go to MR2OC i am still completely lost, but i havnt spent as much time on there as here

    damn, GST has kicked in...

I think the dedicated threads have their place, and as has been said already, take that away and you're gonna have pissed-off older members having to answer n00b questions all the time because they can't be bothered searching through pages of crap to find an answer to their question.

Bottom of the page sticky sounds good but then when you go into the thread it should be broken down into 2, so you would see something like

    AW11 owners>
    AW11 Tech talk
    and
    AW11 Chit Chat

If its AW11 specific then it can go in there, if there is some tech talk thats not specific to the car then members should try and remember to put it in the general tech section.
I think a new comer to the forum is going to have a quick scan over the forum and notice a specific thread over the general tech section and go there instead which would stop the n00b questions that seem to annoy people appearing in the general tech section. In my experience the people who frequent the specific threads dont really mind covering a topic ad nauseum and it will be easy to direct them to the right information in the tech talk.

Getting rid of the specific sections all together would see either the general section being filled with random chit chat threads that I'm sure would annoy a few members or a heap of members not bothering to come on here at all. Its good knowing you can come on here and just talk shit without annoying others or you can just come on and post some random crap about your car without clogging up the boards.

    Anyway thats just my 3' / 6p (3 shillings and 6 pence).

no need to break it into seperate section sjust bottom sticky all the dedicated threads on the bottom of the first page of general car chat.

its like big brother. if you dont like it dont look, it keeps those that want to model specifc(ish) chat out of the way of others.

and i feel they are fairly low on moderation requirement (or at least the aw11 thread seems to be). i dont see too many posts in there edited or deleted by moderators. and if there was someone causing trouble the rep system and the fairly tight knit group in there would self regulate fairly easily. i dont know if this is the case for the other threads, i could but hope

Stickying the threads at the bottom of the page does sound like a reasonable solution to the complain that they're cluttering up the forum.

It doesn't do anything for getting the tech info where it should be though but I guess it's some kind of compromise.

I am just looking for a way to make this happen with the vbulletin guys though.

What about just a simple subforum? Same as we have the meeting minutes in here or Conversions in T&C.

    Hi,

Sounds okay but there a few threads and I don't want to see the page filled with specific threads - especially as more threads may be created. I prefer them to be in a different sub-section under the General Car Discussion. People will find the threads there easily enough and it won't clutter the first page with heaps of dedicated threads.

Don't forget there's some engine-specific threads in there also. It's not just limited to vehicles.

there are what about half a dozen dedicated threads that are active enough to always be on the front page ? perhaps just sticky those and the less active ones remain in the activity rotation ?

The dedicated threads are great especially for noobs who have just bought that car, because you only have to look or ask in the one place for a whole bunch of random stuff that really doesn't deserve it's own thread.

Plus it's a great place for just talking crap instead of creating new crap threads that just take up even more page space.

+1 for sticky'd at bottom of page.

    Cheers

so whats the deal does this need to be made into a pooll for it to happen?

im looking at the forums on my nannas computer today and with her old person resolution the 'dedicated' threads take up the whole screen.

even with my l337 h4x0r resolution its still annoying.

its not like the threads will get lost or anything, as they have a very dedicated following and membership.

These friggin threads still shit me to tears, but the pussy board members have decided to turn a blind eye, seeing as they're all posting in the dedicated threads relevant to them & their cars!
Bloody soft bastards. Don't worry, I'll run for board member again next year, & my election promise will be to eradicate all dedicated threads! Yeah, I'm sure that will work.

C'mon, please do something about it, plenty of reasonable suggestions have been made, just stick them down the bottom of the page or something!!!

There is no way to make some stickies at the bottom of the page. The conclusion come to at the board meeting where my position was, I'd rather see them not exist, was that people could "man up" and scroll past the 6 or so threads if they don't interest them.

Woops, sorry Josh, my "pussies" and "soft bastards" comments are withdrawn from being directed at you, but they still aply to the rest of your cohort! (And I hope they realise I'm saying that tongue in cheek!)

Seriously though, with the number of forum & more importantly club members showing support for this idea, I feel the problem has not been addressed satisfactorily.

P.p.s. i know the hypocrisy of me posting in about 4 or 5 of them.
