Default 4AGE 20V Hard to start when hot and cold

    Good Afternoon All,

I have posted a few threads here now about my new car (20V 4AGE AE92 Hatch)

Since getting it I have noticed a few problems not of great concern but still a bit of a hassle. I first noticed this when I drove it three hours home from Canberra and stopped at my friends house. Shortly after stopping there I went to start the car after turning it off and It wouldn't start easily it took me two or three goes and on the final one i had my foot flat to the floor. Now today, I went to start the car in the morning and it was pretty cold the only way i could get it to go was by also having my foot on the accelerator.

I'm not sure why it's doing this but it is somewhat an annoyance - I look like a tool when i start it lol.

Only thing I have really done is change the spark plugs as the previous owner said he never did it in the two years he owned it lol. He did however change the leads and give it a basic service.

Anywho again the car is an AE92 4AGE 20V Blacktop converted AE92 Hatchback

If anyone can help it would be appreciated!

Engine needs more air. There is a 3-wire Idle Speed Control Valve at the rear of the head on the intake side. This controls the air that the engine gets when the throttle is closed. Sometimes they get sticky, and it might not be opening as far as it should. You can take it off and blow it out with carb cleaner to get rid of any black goober that has collected inside. Finish off with a bit of CRC, and see if that makes a difference to starting.

    Cheers... jondee86

Thank you very much! I will give it a shot in the morning if I have enough time or tomorrow before I go out. Thank you very much!

OK so i managed to get hold of some spare parts which include a ISCV so I cleaned it up and went to take mine off but got stuck because the bolts are in odd places.
Can anyone tell me how to unbolt it from the engine correctly?

I also noticed that my idle is very.. "floaty" sometimes it will sit at 1.5k sometimes 1k and will float around there sometimes. I also noticed that there is a K&N filter which attaches to my ISCV which looks old and dirty so I may also replace it in the hopes to get a better running car.

Seems you have to remove the throttle body assembly before you can remove the ISCV. Tough break :-\

Theoretically, genuine K&N filters can be washed and re-oiled. But by the time you buy the solvent and the filter oil, it might be cheaper to just get another generic filter from Supacheaper.
