I feel it's the box too.
If it was the clutch reverse would be one of the last gears to go in easy.
hmm thats interesting mate.
i took the car to the gearbox shop that put the marlin crawler bits in it and he was quite confident it was the clutch. so i dropped the gearbox and took the clutch to him, we both went and saw a lad who works for clutch industries and he had a look, said it was well made and appeared to have no defects. he was quite confident that it is an issue caused by using antiseize instead of grease on the splines & throwout. so i guess ill put the box back in with molybendum grease. basically a couple people have recommended what 4th surf originally recommended in this thread.
so ill throw it back in, in the next few days and let you guys know how it goes. to be completely honest i think its the box, but i'm hoping it's not. but i dont know nearly as much about how gearboxes work so my gut feeling is probably null and void.
With mine you do not need to put it in reverse ,only pull it over and touch the gate. this does not happen all the time ,but is very agravating when it does,so I will fix it or change to a different transmisson. This box changes well when driving and will happily go back into 1st at 20kph. a kit for these is only $340 ish so I figure it's the way to go,biggest job is removeing and replacing box.
Brum, was going to be a billy cart ,now has motor and 6 speed+++

Sounds a tricky one, but i personally think its sounds like the Box too, before you put the box back in see what it feels like on the bench, select neutral & see how much drag it seems to have if you turn the input shaft whilst hanging onto the output shaft to stop it from turning, there should only be light drag felt ...
I'm guessing the oil is causing the synchros to drag or possibly there is some binding in the box between the gear sets ...
Check what the oil looks like & possibly refill with the same oil again so you are not introducing some other changes into the equasion ..
righto
put the box in today, it selects gears now. but not very well and not consistantly. not sure what to make of that to be honest, the molybendum grease is obviously better than the antiseize but theres still an underlying issue. i'll take the car in to the boxshop on monday and ask him what he reckons. ideally i'd like him to remove/fix/install the box this time but i have a feeling i'll be doing the remove/install part haha.
weird symptoms good luck man
Get him to check all the detents and springs are in the correct places.
I have had one do a similar thing and someone left the detent ball in but with no spring.
turned out to be the antiseize, even though its recomended, its junk. Molybendum grease worked a treat and the clutch itself is a good peice of kit.
Mate until I read this thread I was convinced RPS didn't make a carbon twin plate for the R154. Where did you get it from??
