they are just weak rods, i think prehaps a combination of both (revs and boost) but i know one guy on here a rod was thrown out the side of the block and he wasnt even giving it many herbs at the time. (stock ecu so tuning not usually an issue)

as for the turbos on the 205s being an owner of one of those 77 and having ran my stock turbo (and engine) for years on 20 psi (untill engine and turbo upgrade, now i run more) they are definatly not ceramic. Like i said with imports its a hit and miss with most of the time it being a miss.

As for rods on earlier ones then gen2 and gen3 run the same rods (duno about gen1) but they are tough as guts but a bit heavy, so fine for big boost, not so much for big revs.

Im still using stock (albeit shot peened and treated) rods, and they hold up fine to 265 kw atw, and 7200 (soon ill push more boost and revs up to 7500)

well I am at 364whp on last setup , now got bigger intercooler and I am at 20psi. well I am doing to this to try something different not building a high horsepower engine, this is my track car , time attack project, so most likely will be at 17psi, my gen3 pistons look still good was boosting 22psi, 20 psi daily , but not my daily now, plus I got power fc, and got it tuned by one of the good mr2 tuners in my area, next tune on this new setup will be done by a power fc expert,he tune drift cars in los angeles. so my setup will be st246 pistons with eagle rods, maybe 5sfe crank already balance, trd headgasket 0.8 and will be on e85 or 100 octane.

    hey guys,

ALL jdm caldina's are ceramic and no good for any more than 16psi as stated by cuts. The AU delivered GT4's were steel and the jdm GT4's were ceramic. the st215 does also have the cast exhaust housing to the manifold same as the 246, which means no turbo change without changing the manifold.
All 3s run lean on factory tune and I will bet most of the Gen 4's that have failed have failed between the 2 and 3 cylinder as they seen to run much leaner on the 3rd cylinder for some reason. Lean = heat/detonation and good by block. A decent ecu and as stated by cuts a set of forgies (Totally agree with the tool call cuts) will see a happy 3s owner. And for godsake dont dnt boost a stock caldina past 14psi! I made 212hp atw at the bdd last week on 12psi.

stock 246 s. run rich not lean. unles the oxy sensor is shot( all toyotas without turbos run lean if sensor is shot..) not sure about turbs ones.
caldina club members have gain 10 hp at wheels buy leaning off the factory richness up top wth an apexi piggy back. leaned off to 14 7/1
however i think the original question to this post has an answer , 14 psi would be the limit for a stock turbo by the sounds
