i think so. certainly sits on more revs with the manual.

3.9:1 final drive factory so the auto must be pretty tall. second gear is good for 125 on the limiter.

i think the converter and general "autoness" does it no favors, u can just feel it robbing power, no matter what gear ur in.

one thing i did notice was when auto the car was pretty quick from 80k upwards, and shithouse down low. with the manual it has get up and go from 0km/h but maybe not quite so impressive from 160+

Seriously i'd consider standalone. the stock tune will be all wrong for this engine, I know there isnt much in the way of plug n pray ecu's for the 7m let alone the 7mge however do not overlook the ecu it will be the best bang for buck you can spend.

For the money most spend on piggy back systems for often average results, I would highly recommend stand alone. My 7MGTE really came to life with an adaptronic, and is quite possibly the best bang for buck mod I've done so far. The ability to dial in some real timing figures and pull out some fuel in the mid range transformed the car completely.

Congrats on getting it all together BTW, its great to see someone going down the NA 7M route since Ed's has gone off site. Looking forward to seeing some positive results.

Not a good idea to completely grind away the valve guides.
Your valve stem seals will now wear quicker.
They could have been reshaped a bit to slightly improve airflow.

Care to Explain why? The main reason for seal and valve guide wear is due to valve train geometry which the 7m has none basically (straight up and down motion, no pushrods or rockers etc) and also the valve being eccentric to the valve seat

Also on another note the engine is up and running great, cams come in around 3500 rpm and pull nicely from the onwards and sounds pretty beefy idleing I think I may go a full standalone ecu sometime soon though gist tossing up which would be better ecu for a na 7m

    Cheers luke

Andrew I think it is safe to say yes, I have only gone out to 6000-6200rpm?? And it makes plenty of power round there

Also guys re standalone ecu's what is a recommended ecu for a 7mge??

    Cheers Luke

stockers with 4deg retard on the intake... pulls HARD to 7000, still strong at 7500 but you can feel it doesnt have a lot more to go. stock bottom end with full counterweight crank anyway so im not game to go any higher -this motor was built for torque not revs and doesnt have the supporting hardware
