cam bloke has to measure how much meat there is on the lobes vs the height of the bearing journals to make sure they dont foul on the buckets when installed to confirm exactly how much lift he can give me. i will probably take some cams down with a head next time so he can measure it all up properly.

then its just a matter of picking the right valve stem length for what is taken off the base circle. 2j are only slightly longer than 7m however 3sgte are looking better are 99.5(EX) and 100.5(IN). all the other options i found in a 6mm stem with the right head diameter are over 101mm so would probably need to be ground down.

but have to get the cams done first so i know the final dimension.

Ok instead of starting a new thread i though i would change this one into my 7m build:
    so far i have

    -brought the motor

    -fully stripped it

Inspected cylinder head which was fucked lol i have never seen cam journals, tunnels in such worse condition

I brought another head of a forum member for 50 bucks and it is immaculate! cam tunnels are great, no water jacket damage what so ever, no warpage, and very close to original thickness and i lol'd very much when i saw that the casting was stamped with DF 11 93 which means it was recod at my work in november of 1993 LOL

so far i have done abit of work to the ports (still got quite a few hours work left till im done)

    stock:

    what mine looks like now:

Also i now have a acis manifold much work to get it to work on the cressida?

do u want to use the actual acis or just the dual intake manifold?

what are you doing for a computer?
u should come over to the dark side with me and ditch the ecu altogether

good work on the inlet ports, uve openned them up heaps!!

Computer will be standard, would it be hard to rig up the acis to work without the supra ecu, surely the supra manifold would be better than the stock cressida one without acis?

I wanna keep it efi though! after owning a non efi daily, i know what i would rather

Also regarding de shrouding of the inlet valves have anyone got pictures of a "de-shrouded" chamber

    thanks luke

oh yeah...... forgot it was for a daily

not sure about actually wiring upthe acis but im sure ive seen it around here somewhere. otherwise a simple RPM switch coudnt be too hard to get working. how many wires are on the actual acis bit?

From memory, the ACIS is triggered by a VSV. This VSV is powered by the ECU which gets its inputs only from throttle position and rpm. Wouldn't be too hard to programme an aftermarket ECU to do this. Default position is for the ACIS plenum butterfly to be open so the effective runner length is short. When the butterfly closes, the effective runner length is longer, improving torque.

It makes sense that the MA70 ECU should have this output but best ask those who know for sure.

    1) Above 60% throttle angle and above 4,200 rpm: VSV off, ACIS open.

    2) Above 60% throttle angle and below 4,200 rpm: VSV on, ACIS closed.

    3) Below 60% throttle angle and above 4,200 rpm: VSV on, ACIS closed.

    4) Below 60% throttle angle and below 4,200 rpm: VSV off, ACIS open.

    Hi Luke

Mine has been running for about 3 years using a Jaycar frequency switch kit to change it over at 4200rpm. Works great.

hey man, what was your budget on this build, engine only?
im weighing up my options atm and this is one of them, and i would do 90% of the work myself...
    about $2000?

    cheers,
    tim

I am hoping to get away with abit under $2000 with gearbox and pedals,

But in saying that my machine work doesn't cost me anything if i had to pay for machine work i couldn't imagine how much i would be spending and i probably wouldn't be building a 7m

How is it coming along? Any pics?

Are you buying big cams and high comp pistons etc?

can build a decent 7m for 2k, my last one was under that for motor only, getting everything at mates rates and it went pretty hard for a long time before i killed it

machine work is not THAT expensive, 500-600 should cover it including a balance if u get looked after

as for how much the new one is costing, dont go there!
There is no substitute for PUBIC inches

Going pretty good but my current crank we have decided is fucked the key way is flogged out Badly! but i found i 6m crank in stock at work that i may permanatly borrow ,

would a 6m crank into a 7m change the capacity?

also speaking to the crank grinder im getting the crank indexed,

got a price for my parts

    -arp rod bolts
    -hypatec pistons
    -bearings (king branded i believe)
    - full gasket kit (ajusa- used there vrs and was very impressed with the metal hg it came with )
    -little end bushes

that is costing me $600 incl gst

once i get the bottom end built and have a comp ratio worked out i will get the cams ground to suit
