Meh major damage I doubt it, heaps of OEM cars not running any BOV
    e.g. 1ggte...

    Agreed.

In that case best to run a BOV or engine will blow up!

overboost? lol right. it never ceases to amaze me how many people get such a simple thing so wrong.

a bov is just a pressure relief valve, and all it protects is the compressor. even then the job it does really doesn't rate much of a mention. aftermarket bov's are wank, pure and simple. if you're buying it for the noise, then go for it... i won't laugh!

    Nah, it's early!

    Tis OK

Still the lack of BOV may put slightly more pressure on the thrust faces in the turbo, but other than that.... it isn't going to make your engine blow up

wow apparently you can run lots of boost on a GFB valve and not have any worries. interesting when the one i had leaked at 14psi and began to stick open and shut after 6 months of being on the car.

after this i purchased one of the "expensive valves" (read HKS SSQ) never had a drama, came with everything needed to install for my 1J, never leaked, never got stuck. and i must say i like the sound but hey everyone had their weakness

lets just hope this thread doesnt turn into the age old argument of BOV or no BOV.

basically with all things you get what you pay for, for the most part.

I also bought a HKS SSQV but am yet to use it. Would much prefer one of these over a turbosmart or whatever autosalon brand is being peddled these days.

On a side note have you thought about buying a used one from an importer. They sell for like $15, greddy, trust, hks, etc.

I bought an eBay special BOV for my 1JZ Soarer. Worked a treat for 2 years, then seized up and had to be replaced.

    Best $44 spent.

I had 2 dirtbike rims anodised for $130 including GST and that included stripping the clear coat they had on them before acid bath, anodic treatment, dyeing and then dye fixing.

I would estimate a bulk job of brand new piss ant BOV's to cost less than 10 bucks each to anodize.

Lets face it, and it has been mentioned, the price of a dear BOV is dictated by demand/what people will pay. Is a HKS timing belt really worth $200 when a toyota geniune jobbie is $80or is it just that people want a spiffy pink belt and are happy to pay for it?

P.S Wastegate controls boost. BOV helps prevent compressor stalling.

$44 in Thailand would help you contract 'The black appendage' but by god it would be fun.
