Yep I bought it when I was thinkin of selling my ST,then reconsidered and sold it to my cousin,he resprayed it for me before i got it.It still needs some work which as my cousin has no idea nor motivation generally means me doing the work It also needs to be supercharged or turbo'd as the little 4age has no torque Anyways sorry for the hijak boys..

I must say this topic has been good.I have recently done the Peugeot,hilux Xt130 Brake conversion on my TA22 but lack good pedal pressure to the brakes.Now I know what master cyclinder to use.Has anyone got all this brake upgrade on their car and can say how well it does pull up?

Hey guys,on the whole brake upgrade,my cousins 74 has wilwood 4 pots and massive rotors but is still pulling up like an overweight samoan on ice.

you need to change the brake bias - the MC and standard bias valve are setup to push one piston at each front strut, now there's 4 per strut. Yes, a larger MC will help (less pedal movement required) but you'll also have to fixup the bias.

The reason you cuz's TA is pulling up badly is the rear brakes are probably doing all the work.

i didnt have any problems with the brake bias on my car with hilux 4pots + standard drums on the rear, with 1" MC.

majority of the the time its a front wheel that locks up first. id drive it first and see how you go.

ill confirm that these brakes work REALLY well. maybe not as good as the nissan combo people are running, but still very decent.

I'm with Brett 100% here, on my RA23 with the std rear drums and Hilux calipers on the front, and a 15/16th SA63 MC bored out to 1inch, my brake bias is fine, and my fronts lock just before the rears too.
Just be aware of any change you make with any MC and vac booster that the piston inside the MC retracts fully and lets the fluid drain back into the resi after repeated stops. Otherwise you will find that your front brakes will lock on permanently until the fluid drains back.

Try not to go and change the TA-22 booster it is not really the issue here. The RA series booster is bigger in diameter and uses a four bolt MC anyway. Too much work.

Find a 1 inch Camry late model MC as it is a straight bolt to the TA-22 booster. I use a similar one from an ST205 but the Camry one should have a resivour that will clear the booster vacuum line and it has the ports to clear the strut tower. Phil L in Canberra recently purchased a new MC from Toyota for around $150 and only days before I paid around $160 for a overhaul kit, wasn't I miffed.

His set up is working well. I have the same as Phil's brake set up at the front but not the same as yours. I put in another pressure reduction valve, same as the one on the TA-22 firewall in the rear line but I have a long soft pedal which starts the rears and I can feel the rear piston hit up to the front piston and start to work it. I still have to figure out why and fix it I will most likely just remove the extra valve and see what it is like.

If you have not already, change the rear slave cylinders to the bigger RA23/28 ones so that you end up with a set up like ra23celica. As he is saying, his brake package works well.

I think some people are missing the action of Riceburna's cousins problem.

1) 23/28 MC will not fit the 22 as they will interfere with the strut tower.

2) Riceburna's cousin's wilwoods have much larger pistons than the little ones in the hilux callipers. This will cause the bias to shift to the rear more than in the 23/28

So, a few suggestions on fixing this.

1) rebuild the existing booster, you will get better feel than putting in a larger item anyways

2) Larger MC will definitely improve braking power, as it will be able to push the pistons further in a single stroke, and will be softer on the foot.

3) Bias controller will sort out the balance between front and rear.

4) Rear discs will help to balance things out, ST141/RT142 corona avante live axle items are an easy swap.

Also, ensure that the shockabsorbers, front bushes and balljoints and tyres are good condition and good quality, otherwise it will stop about as good as a datsun 120Y towing a boat regardless of how good the brakes are.

There is sooo much involved in a brake setup, please research these things before making a change to only one part of the system.

I've never heard of this swap being done before.....Its usually the AE86 rearend or hilux etc... How wide is this rearend compared to the TA22's?
What series diffs to the ST141's or RT142's have? T or F maybe? they came factory with discs on the back?

Damm i want new brakes on my 22!! they locked up today when they probably shouldn't have....

ST/RT142 rear ends are well wide (to quote Ali G) - they measure something like 1410 to 1430mm while a TA22 rear track is 1280mm or so. And if its a RT142 rear end it will have a Aust made. Borg Warner diff in it, and there is no way you will ever find an LSD for that.

Here is what an ST205 version of the 1 inch MC looks like in the TA-22 enginebay.

You can see my problem with the booster pipe and the reservoir, but it bolts straight up and my recommendation is to have two new braided lines made up with banjo bolt ends to save bending up the old steel pipes as I did.

Here is what my front brake set-up looks like, it uses a Magna TN caliper on an RA60 RDA rotor.

I believe Owen was talking about using the RT142 discs, not the whole rear end. The Borg-Warner diff in the live-axle Corona is p00.
