Just my opinion, but I am not in favour of drilling out the holes. When I overlaided the Pug rotor onto the Corona rotor I found the holes of the Pug rotor were out, all in different directions, by comparison.
Hard to explain without a picture.
The Pug rotor's holes are drilled to a different PCD than the corona rotor. And I was worried about upseting the balance of the rotor by offset drilling or enlarging the holes unnecessarily.
So, I took it to a machinist who drilled 4 new holes, exact size, 45 degrees around from the existing ones, that exactly match the hat, as it was centred over the rotor. Cost me a 6 pack of Bundy and Coke.

it wouldnt really worry it enough to change the balance of the rotor.
for one, the rotor mounting holes are very close to the rotate point so there is less inertia and the other thing is that when you drill the holes out, (with a drill press ofcourse ) the drill bit centres its self. i just left the table on my drill press free to swing in the breeze when i drilled my rotors

i don't actually see how you could. granted i don't have LN106 calipers, i have LN130 ones (same part i believe - it all bolts up) but the holes for the bolts that hold the two castings together are only a couple of mm from the edge.

yeah i think i'll do that too. sounds like the safest bet. now i just gotta find someone in the brisbane area who can machine down and re-drill the rotors.. suggestions anyone?

I have read old threads from others who have filed out the insides of their 106 calipers so I'm guessing it can be done - but like i said - I did not go down that route - I milled the rotors instead.

Get it done at different places.
Any decent brake shop should be able to machine them down (cost me $10ea) and any decent machine shop should re-drill them (cost me $20ea).

    Cool Re: Celica Brake Upgrade

Hey sorry to hijack aswell, mines more of a query..
I am finally about to implement my brake upgrade, but kinda stuck.
I think i asked this on the old forum but only got minimal responses from people actually recently doing the conversion.

I want to keep the 4-stud celica pattern on my TA23.

I have 604 RDA discs, also had them machined down to 267mm, cost me a slab.
i have struts, and hubs from an XT130. (plus xt130 discs&calipers)
    I have an MA61 booster & 15/16" master cylinder.

Now when i phoned around to get the calipers, a few guys asked me if i wanted the Independent Front Suspenion model front calipers, or solid-axle model front??? Has anyone found any differences in this matter? i thought they would generally be the same but they seemed to think not?
can anyone shed light on this?

And another qeustion, when fitting new wheel bearings would you use the XT130 bearing, the xA23 bearing, or the Pugueot 604 wheel bearing?

Also does anyone know the part number(s) for the LN106 caliper rebuild/seals kit?

    Thanks
    Guy

Im pretty sure they are still the same caliper.

As for the bearings, you are using the XT130 strut & hub, so use the XT130 bearings.

thanks for that advice MWP, just thought someone may have come across this or if it should be disregarded.

Anyone know the rebuild kit part #'s offhand?

i had one in my hand the other day, i can't remember the part number though. just call repco and ask them for an LN106 front caliper rebuild kit. they can order in and have them in 24 hours.

oh by the way.. you're going to have a great time removing the pistons from those calipers...

the best bet to upgrade the mastercylinder of a TA23 for 4 piston callipers is to grab xZ2x soarer/ xA70 supra 1" item.

these are 4 bolt so you may need to get a RA23/28 booster to go with if your booster is only 2 bolt.

this is also assuming that the TA23 booster isnt that little pissy little thing that was equipped to the TA22's

Yep sorry just changed my post to explain its a TA22,so first upgrade is ra/ta23 booster then soarer or supra master cyl? Also im not familiar with the soarers or supras so can you explain the models best suited.

    Thanks
