the best bet to upgrade the mastercylinder of a TA23 for 4 piston callipers is to grab xZ2x soarer/ xA70 supra 1" item.

these are 4 bolt so you may need to get a RA23/28 booster to go with if your booster is only 2 bolt.

this is also assuming that the TA23 booster isnt that little pissy little thing that was equipped to the TA22's
nah i have the ra23 brakes/booster/mc in the ta23 at the moment. I bought the MA61 m/c and booster as a package because it was the same price as for just the m/c alone.

I plan on fitting the MA61 15/16" 4-bolt item to the ra23 booster, when i put in the xt130/pug/ln106 upgrade.
I dont want to use the MA61 booster cos its massiv.
    does this sound right?

    thanks brett

how easy is that swap? bolt on? cable length same?

    are they a disc/drum setup?

    too many questions?

You can see my problem with the booster pipe and the reservoir, but it bolts straight up and my recommendation is to have two new braided lines made up with banjo bolt ends to save bending up the old steel pipes as I did.

Here is what my front brake set-up looks like, it uses a Magna TN caliper on an RA60 RDA rotor.

OK, i was talking about the brakes not the diff. Anybody who has followed any of my diff posts knows that I HATE BOG WARMER WITH A PASSION. That sed, the cable lenghts for the handbrake are VERY similar, though the mounts for the outers need adjusting. Yes they are a disc/drum setup, i think it pretty much was just FRAUD who was stupid enough to use calliper handbrakes. Spread the love Ace, many ppl need it more than me.

i have a noob question regarding the xt130/pug/ln106 upgrade. Just wondering if you can keep a 4 stud pattern with the swap

    cheers

by default, the xt130/pug/ln106 IS a 4-stud setup.

it's just that the disk needs new holes drilled to suit the Toyota PCD, instead of the Pug PCD (or you can slot them if you feel brave - which many people do).

my rotors arrived yesterday and i just had them machined. only had to machine em about 1 - 1.5mm.. other people seem to have needed more and i'm wondering whether it's the LN130 calipers i used. perhaps these are mounted slightly further away from the wheel center and are a better choice for the upgrade. the mounting position was still spot on for the XT130 struts.

in fact the rotors fit in without machining, they were just uncomfortably close to the caliper (possible heat expansion issues)

    just fyi..

dont forget that you probly wont be using the disc part that is bigger than 268mm diameter. people just usually remove what is not going to be used by the brake pad.

well that's true. though i don't even have pads yet so who knows where they'll sit.

quick question.. in my mind you kinda NEED to apply a bit of loctite when you put the calipers together and mount them to the strut. am i wrong about this or is it definately a requirement?

i didnt use loctite on my brake calliper mounting bolts and mine havent fallen off yet

im not sure if other people do though.

minimum requirement would be a washer of some sort

id also assume that because the hilux ran a 268mm (is it really this - i forget ) rotor, the calliper is built to take a 268mm rotor. either that or the calliper mounting lugs determine what size rotor the calliper the will use.

if you're worried about the nuts holding the caliper on, use nylocs

well chatting to the guy who did the machining, he reckons people generally don't use it.. just washers.. i think i'll use both though

RDA said they didnt have them in stock and wouldnt do for 6 months. That was over 6 months ago, so i guess they never got them in.

As for fileing down the caliper, its a much better idea to have the rotors machined down instead.

Here are the photos of what i did:

Nice job on the brakes and calipers. Once the calipers were seperated and painted how were they reassembled? Was there a gasket or seal between both halves of the calipers?

yeah there are two small o-rings between the castings.
