Im sure turbos arent the solution hes looking for.
When people ask for cheap alternatives they don want to spend 1G's upwards.
BTW tdo4l turbos can be bought for 200 with very low kms.
Ok i havn't read through the whole thread, but i just wanted to comment on the bogans in the commo
I have a AE93 GTi (215,000k's)
Mods:
GReddy Spark plugs
New Top Gun Max leads
Motul Synthetic Oil 10w/40
K&N Oil Filter
K&N Panel Filter
C56 Transaxle
My car as it is now will happily sit next to a VZ Alloytech V6 from a moving start (60kmh)
and nothing pisses off a commo driver more than a stock granny car they can't pull away from

the 4age loves the old t25 ca18det jobbies.![]()
He didnt ask for cheap... he asked for best bang for buck... there is a big difference.Originally Posted by cuzzo
Oh, and for the motor to get a gutful of water from going through a puddle with my suggested CAI... the puddle would have to be the size of loch ness. The air still has to go up from the bottom of the air box through the filter to get to the motor, so a bit of a splash wont drown the ol girl... a bad puddle may cause the motor to go rich and surge for a short time, but nothing that will damage the engine.

Geez this thread is one of the most crap filled tech threads we've had in a while, disappointing because a lot of the garbage has been argued many times over before and i thought we (as a common group of enthusiasts) had reached reasonable conclusions on just about all of it.
I'm not going to wade into the debate with any points in particular, but my piece of advice to the thread starter would be to do your own research (ie 'Search' up top of this and every page on this site, and google is pretty handy too), and judge for yourself the merit of the info obtained as well as the source of that info. Don't expect to get quick easy answers unless you're not too concerned how accurate they are, especially for such a vague question as this. For starters, set some parameters before going looking for answers, you'll make it much easier on yourself if you know what you want.
One bit of advice for judging the info in this thread would be to use the rep points of posters as a rough guide as to how well respected their tech info is (there are exceptions though!). And i'd suggest a couple other people do some (re-?)searching of their own to help maintain the high quality of our collective tech knowledge and minimise the internet-perpetuated bullshit.

I fitted very short I.MEC ram tubes inside the factory airbox on an AE111 20V, it picked up 6kw at the wheels at the top end and no loss any where, below 3200rpm it picked up 3kw over standard ramtubes. They cost $170 landed, cheap and inside standard airbox so no cop hassles and induction noise is only slightly louder under full throttle but still very quiet when cruising.
turbo is one, but tends to get expensive. but good bang for buck none the less.
best one i can think of to do on the cheap is a lightened flywheel![]()

I would recommend 308deg 0.40" cams, 45mm quads, 2 1/2" sidepipe, 11.3:1 CR *and go from there...
That will have you posting times within a few seconds of most of the saloon car pack (with the right suspension).
* with all the other pieces needed to make it work
Really the amount of misinformation and general imbecility in this thread is ginormous.
Listen to OC, Bill, and Linden at the least.

CORRECT!!!!!!!!!! all it says is TOYOTA on it. how do i know that??? cause i have 1. . . .
o_man_ra23 i have researched this heaps hence i put the name "ct20b" in inverted commas.. if you cal toyota they will tel you they have never made a turbo called the "ct20b" gen1 and gen2 3sgte come with a ct26 and the gen3 3sgte comes with the "ct20b" gen3 ct26
the only way you can tell if its a "real" "ct20b" is the 20b has 7holes in the exuasht side and only says toyota on it......

I just wanted to clear something up here. I know that most/all of the people here in this thread have never or won't ever drive a 162 with a functioning TVIS, and I might be perpetuating someone else's experiences in one of these here, but this is apparently what happens with a stock 162 with an oversized exhaust attached. rant all you want about these things, and I know he don't own a 3S but for fuck sake I'm only trying to help the guy out.
the "CT20b" that came off the GT-Four cut. verified by the people at Precision Turbochargers who were going to rebuild it before they said it wasn't feasible to rebuild a ceramic wheel turbo, they said it would be far cheaper and easier to throw in a CT26 instead and have similar benefits.well I know that the CT20b would have been the better choice for me because it spooled up right off the mark.
something Owen didn't mention regarding the cold air intake idea, and the funnel at the front of the car, I wonder why snorkels are placed up so high on a 4WD?most people can't be bothered about hooking up a direct feed to the TB from a pipe connected to the front of the car, so the next bit of info probably won't matter much to many. as long as it's connected DIRECTLY to the main air intake feed it will provide a vacuum effect at the front of the car. now obviously you won't be going full speed ahead through a puddle (depending on size and depth) and potentially aquaplaning, and unless you're a moron you'll have the air filter placed somewhere in between the air pickup point and the TB. the vacuum mentioned being relative to throttle opening, surely it won't be getting sucked up through the funnel at WOT and being filtered/atomised by the air filter. it's pretty hard to get water up there.
*sigh*
I think this might be the problem with what you are saying; this is not fact. It is not even personal experience.Originally Posted by Andrew162
