Just read the $50.00 paint job in its entirety. For the time involved in recoating and recoating and recoating, and recoating, on top of the prep time, I say forget it.

I can buy enough primer and colour to do a reasonable size car for under $300.00. The prep time will be the same as for any paint job.

Once prepped the spraying only takes an hour or 2, and then you can put your car back together the next day.

$50.00 roller paintjob is cost effective, but

a spray job will be way more time effective.

    cheers Chuck.

Chuck... the other part of it is the air compressor and spray gun. People on here are talking about $400+ for a decent gun... and you are looking at a minimum of $900 for a decent air compressor. Well worth it if you are using them for a multitude of projects (I have had heaps of use from my compressors and spray guns over the years), but not so effective if your a poor uni student with $50 in his pocket, and in need of a paint job.

Also, an improvement on his method is to use a slow drying enamel based paint. Roll it on with a foam roller, wait 15 mins, roll it again, wait another 15 and roll it, keep doing that until it is firm. This will eliminate a lot of the need for cutting it back.

I have the same question in Vic , what good eastern suburbs panel shops are there .
Also im finally painting a mark2 that i have owned for 10 years , it has a few prior repair spots that need to redone but there is a few layers of paint in other repaired spots that still look good.
Will any problems suface later on after a 2pac respray over 20 year old acrylic or maybe enamal paint that is still in good condition .
Also i plan to fiberglass a couple of tiny pinholes of rust , by using por15 first then fiberglass over it . ?????

what car you have.. i have a set of MZ20 calipers painted in GOLD that have never been on the car that i need to get rid of.

anyway painting calipers is easy make sure you give them a good clean first and cover over the sliders etc so they dont get paint on them

ill take some pics of mine a bit later and upload so you can what i did and what it looks like

Removed pics as no longer needed!

Yeh, I got a 1600x1200 res monitor and they don't fit on my screen

I've got a set of Z32 nissan brakes that I'll be painting and upgrading to so I don't think the soarer brakes will help me, sorry. And I wouldn't have gold ones on my car anyway, painting them black

Well the calipers are currently pulled apart and main parts are in 2 pieces and pistons and seals are out etc so I'll be masking off the important workings and just spraying the outer bits Bought some primer and gloss black yesterday so just gotta prep the surface and hope for a warm day next weekend.

Are you planning to use your brakes? If so be careful about what you paint the calipers with, they suffer some pretty hefty heat after hard application.
