Yeah im going to DIY the rust repair, But I don't see why pressure pack painting it would be that bad, If i brought the high quality stuff possibly 3M brand, It wouldnt come out that bad if I sanded it back ect and did the top coats right. What do you reckon?

Who has done it though? Might give the roller method a try seems to have good results. Can't spray with a air compressor in my situation.

No find a smash repairer to paint it in a proper booth for $1500-2000 if you supply your own paint and remove your own trim. Don't try bs roller methods or anything like that. Go to a smash repairers. It won't be boutique at least it'll look good.

Also painters charge alot because they need to spend so long removing parts. Bring it to them with most of the exterior parts removed and the windows (if need be removed). Make sure you tell them your going to do that. That is a huge money saver. Minimise their labour and it'll save you hundreds.

I dont wanna take the windows out because I might wreck the perfect trims. But there is a bit of rust on the corner so I might have too..

[QUOTE=dnegative;1365101]I had my car resprayed and while I'm more than satisfied with the finish and overall workmanship I suffer quite badly from stone chips. I asked my spray painter (work colleague) about it and was pretty much told there is nothing I can do, its down to the paint and primer used and I should of let him get the paint instead of me blindly picking a brand (protec). I dont really doubt the workmanship as I visited him a few times and he spent a lot of hours getting the body right.

Use ceramic clear, it has less chance of chipping. its used on bmw, mercs ect. its more expensive but if you just put it on you front gards, bonnet and front bar. it should protect more effectively against stone chips.
there is not much you can do about the chips now but fill it again and paint it agian. or you can do the cheep alternative and brush touch it, dose not look as as good but protects against rust.

to check the original colour check the engine bay for the colour code. should be on a small peace of metal with numbers and words. I always thought that one of the nice yellows and would stand out is a pearl yellow from a honda jazz. forgot the name though. lol.
if it is a home job, BE AWARE! rust can surface later on. best choice is to paint strip it or sand blast it. may cost more but in the long run you will have less problems. and not have to re paint it over and over again because of rust. costing you more in the long run. Re prime with 2k. re spray with 2k.

Okay everyone, I think I am going to be the first person to paint a TA22 with Rustoleum paint with a roller, It seems to be the cheapest and best way with crazy nice results with minimal mess ect, I'm not looking for a show car paint job as this car is my uni car.

If you look at the comments on that video it is filled with comments saying it only lasted 4-5 months. Also no clear coat? Clear coat is very important it dampens UV damage and helps to stop bird shit/sap ruining your paint. There is a reason why 2pac painting survives and is still used in the 21st century. It is because it is the best widely avaliable method to ensure paint longevity for cars kept out in the elements. It's not some conspiracy to keep the booth industry in business.

I've got bits of rust repaired area's with primer showing and scratched up paint but hell I'll earn enough money over the break this year to pay for a full respray easily.

I just can't seem to justify such an exspensive paint job for a car I brought for $2500, considering its going to get dinged up and stuff at uni..

Read most of the comments on that video, seems like one person out of a hell of a lot seem to think it lasts 6months max. Btw, thats the only bloke Ive seen thats not used clear coat to do the final coat, I'd be using clear coat to protect from UV rays ect.

Looks like a lot of work. Surely you can borrow spray gear from somebody for a carton and do the job with Acrylic? Get all spraying done in one day (priming excepted) then leave it a week and sand/polish, then you are done.

I had a mate prep his own car, all trim removed, rust repairs done etc. Hired a booth for $200.00, the guy at the shop sussed that my mate had no idea on how to paint, and offered to wave the gun for another $200.00. He was just going to be sitting in the office waiting for my mate to do the job anyway, so painter collects another $200.00, mate is real happy with the paintjob.

You can buy Urethane 2pac really cheap, it is the stuff they use on trucks. It is as tough as nails. 4 litres of topcoat colour and 2 litres of hardener for under $200.00. Autothane is one of the brands of Urethane I have used, and I can not recommend it highly enough.

You just have to have all the prep work and as much masking as possible done before you turn up at the booth. Look around and get some prices from different paint shops.

    cheers Chuck.

I've searched the net for renting booths, Couldn't find anything over here. Plus I don't have the gear nor know anyone who does. I'd spray at my own house but all I've got is a two car garage which can't be painted in. Hence why the roller method seems to be the most appropriate for my situation.

If anyone is in perth and willing to paint my car for me (spray it at your place) I'd buy the paints ect, your gear though. I'd happily pay you dearly.

    Cheers

Thumbs down Re: The Spray Painting Thread

    sirsh dont do it
you will be so disapointed with the finish
i have been around cars and paint shops for years , and i have yet to see a spray can or roller job that hasnt turned out like shit
you would be better off selling your celica now while you can get a fair price for it. coz if you roller it , you will get the shits with the results and will sell it
and wont be able to sell for a decent price , unless someone wants it for a parts car
doing it properly is easier than the way that you propose
