Sorry. You will need a mid sump and a short hilux engine mount bracket and some 10mm plate to space the mounts back 30mm
Looking for a new toy. If you have something 18r powered let me know.

RIP, where ever you are :- 1974 celica, 3tgte and 186.5hp at 6500rpm

Engine mounts won't be a worry. This was a Lite-Stout. Wheel base extended 150mm to suit Long wheel base style side. Air suspension all round and cressida power steering. With Hilux rn40 disc brakes.

So do you think the 18RG will be a good choice? This will be daily driven. And used as a ute also.

I was going to use a 3rz, they are super tall and a little too "modern" to fit the simplicity bill. (Power/reliability/simplicity)
Just in the middle of a roof chop, motor choice is next

Super cool and some good old fashioned induction roar from the 18RG will suit it nicely. Plenty of torque/power for a pretty light Stout.

Sounds like a good choice of motor.

    So.

    Back to original question. Dimensions?
Height is critical. Since there isn't much room under the bonnet.

Blinga, an 18rg suits the look/era of the stout perfectly, maybe I'm a bit biased, as I spent a lot of money building a high comp RG to put in mine.

It should have been plenty powerful enough (the stout is not heavy), but I too started wondering about torque towing or with a load. So the costly hi comp engine went away for another project, with the intention to find a cheap a stock low comp 18rg, and efi and supercharge it with an sc14. This should prove to be quite a reliable, drivable and torquey engine, without spending too much.

Then I stopped being sensible, and now a 1uz auto will probably find it's way in...

So what I'm saying, is that u'd still be the only stout with a blown 18rg, and I dare say u'd be very impressed.

I'll pop out to the shed and take some measurements if you need, but an 18rg has been fitted to a stout a few times, the only big issue would be clearance to the brake master, depending on which manifold you go with.

Thanks Timbosaurus. Yeah the Stout should be still "light". Even though more metal is added into the chassis. But not a great deal. Standard trim they are a neat 1000kg's and thats with the 1.6 litre 2R push rod boat anchor cast iron everything motor. Once I'm done with the whole car it may weight around the 1100kg mark.

For the torque argument, then again 22r's from Hilux make bugger all power and relatively (approx - 80kw and 180nm) same amount of torque numbers and they seem to tow ok. Where as the 18rg (approx - 104kw 170nm) So what Wiki tells me anyway.

Sounds crazy, But I've had a 1uz for the stout. The steering arrangement (rear steer cressida setup) didnt allow for the width. Also the front clip is Z notched 45mm. Which also limits width. Then I went to a 3rz and they are damn tall. The sump and intake needs cutting up. Also from "Plan A" was to keep everything simple from day dot. Since they are a simple looking rig.

Hence why I started to learn towards a slightly old school but up there in the Tech motor.

From the more I read, the 18rg will be more than enough robust and do the job well. Considering all the Hilux'es of older years come with lower output motors in them in general.

I wouldn't go any forced induction. Just the basic's. Rebuild Sidedrafts, freshen up the inside, rings, piston and anything else. Drive the wheels off it.

I've been looking at 1kzte turbo diesels too, but they wan't a fortune for them. And they are really tall in height.

    Ok,

    Length:
The rocker cover/head (which, ancillieries aside, is the longest part) is 56cm.

    Width:
Width of the rocker cover is about 26-27cm

    Height:
the block (from sump face to deck) is about 28cm high, Head and rocker cover is 17.5cm, so that makes the engine (sump aside) about 46cm high.

The only sump I had handy was a mid sump, which is about 5cm deep to the xmember clearance, and 13cm to the base of the bowl.

    Hope that helps.

    Fantastic thanks so much mate!

From all that info. It's a smidge under 600mm tall. Which is perfect. Just means I can body drop my cab that little more. Also it has a roof chop. Haha.

Once the ball gets rolling a bit more I'll post up a full build.

Thanks once again. You're a legend.

I can't wait to see it. They're all mods that would look great.

I'll dig up a sketch I did as a high school kid (must be 15 years ago) of how I wanted my stout back then. A very skillful mate rendered it for me, and I've kept it all these years.

Edit: here tis. I'm getting the impression you and I have the same opinion of a great stout, lol.

One more thing. What are they like on fuel?
Does the side drafts make them thirsty on the juice?

That's all up to your tuning mate. A well tuned efi 18rg, with decel fuel cut and lean cruise, will push your 1000kg stout along with better economy than a modern corolla.

A fucked up tune, tired motor, or flogging the Crap out of it will see worse figures than a Johnson outboard...

    Haha. Fair enough!

Yeah plans are to stick with the side drafts. To keep that nostalgia about it.
Tune it so it aint angry on the fuel. Full engine rebuild too.

    I'm on the hunt.
