    Hi,

Took Trini for a bit of a drive today, and nothing beats the sound and feeling of a turbo'd 18R-G for driving pleasure. It's sort of steampunk, in a good and wholesome way.

Jabbatron, the genuine ones I bought from Toyota were about $13 each.

As for degreeing the motor, the old stick the notches upright will work well as a starting point, however to properly degree them you will need a degree wheel and a dial indicator on magnetic base, then have back to back dyno runs to work out how much overlap you want. This is best done by having a set of vernier adjustable cam gears (I think they are available from Kameari for an exhorbitant price)

I have the experience and the knowledge of how to set up these engines learned when you guys were still in diapers, and do have the cam tool and a few remaining shim steel oem head gaskets, however due to irreconcilable differences with some of the net nazis of this forum an offer to loan it to you will not be forthcoming.
I might consider scanning it onto a jpg file so you can use it as a template and make your own.

Yeah, the correct tool is as rare as and I would not expect anyone to loan it out unless you were local and in a position to help em out.

    However, I made my own out of aluminium angle by taking a few accurate dimensions;
    1. centre distance between the two cams
    2. the radius of the camshaft that has the notch
    3. the width and depth of the notch

Place 2 marks the edge of the aluminium the CL width of the cams (1), draw a radius (2) out from each mark, draw a paralel line across the top of the two arcs, mark matching CL on this line, mark either side the 1/2 width and full depth of the notch. That should be your profile.

Marked up the profile on the aluminium and the rest is 5th grade craft, You might wanna make a cardboard one first, it is easier on the scissors - lol Then go the real one once you are happy.

If the actual dimensions are supplied, I could draw it up in Autocad suitable to be taken to any water jet or laser cutter to have one made to exact dimensions. Eliminates the human error...

how often do cams on RG's are set up at top dead.
I know that mine ran better when one cam was slightly advanced..
This was a long time ago, as the car is still in hibernation.
But one of my cams was always slightly off centre.
Top dead is a starting point, but should not be the final resting place.

Ahhhhh. My local Toyota can't get the half moons. I gave them the part number that's listed earlier in this thread and they just said it doesn't exist. Am I going crazy? Can someone get me a pair from their local Toyota and send them to me??

Also. Has anyone used the rear engine mount holes? My bracket won't fit over the oil filter fitting.
Looking for a new toy. If you have something 18r powered let me know.

Amayama or Castle Hill Toyota mate.

May need to use different style of oil filter fitting. (There are different ones, the 18RGU and 18RGEU ones I had were different at least)
