    18R-Cs don't have those gears.
The 18R-G shaft is longer so that it can be put on.

Just out of interest, how did he break the gear?

Heavy handed tightening apparently. Must have been a serious breaker bar or something I would have thought to make it break!

    Hi,

Had a mate that had the gear on the front of that shaft in an 18rc just randomly snap off and go through the timing cover plate :-o

    Just happens i guess.

The gears which are driven by/drive the chains are the same between the 18R-C and 18R-G. On the R-C, the dizzy drive gear is at the back of the shaft, and the dizzy drives the oil pump. On the R-G that same gear is used to drive an idler shaft which drives the oil pump, and there is a different gear in front of the chain cogs which drives the dizzy and not the oil pump.

The first post somewhat confuses me on this, though I am assuming that it is the gear that drives the dizzy which has broken. In which case these are 18R-G specific, and I am yet to find one new. Don't think I have a spare one anywhere either at the moment.

The first post was probably confused as I was relaying what he mentioned.. having never pulled one apart I took his word for it.

Thanks for clearing it up. Yes it is the dissy one he broke.

Regrinds are probably the way to go. Gives you much more flexibility, instead of having to go with whatever you can find for sale.

When looking at regrinds, there are 2 options. First is a standard regrind, which will require much thicker valve shims, and will limit the amount of duration available. The other is a hard face regrind, where they weld new metal onto the existing lobe, then grind that down. This can allow you to run shims in the same thickness range as existing, and you can get pretty much any lift and duration specs you want. You can also drastically vary the open and close rates. There is a mob in Brisbane called Tighe cams (google them) who from memory have a range of profiles to re-grind on file.

There is another mob in NZ said to be good. Can't remember their name off the top of my head.

Kelfords and yup pretty good by all accounts. Local though and Wade are hard to beat. they did my n/a 18RG cams and my turbo cams. Both hard faced regrinds that survived many many trips to 8000rpm

    hey guys, need some help.

The missus has an 18RG in her little 23..... came with the optioned up BHG.. wasnt to impressed. but alas, we move forward to the fix. Head off and back from being smooooothed. Need to bolt it back on. I noticed that some of the head bolts were looking a little rusty and one almost looks swollen so me thinks its had the BHG for a little while. as the prev owner mentioned something about it sitting around in his shed for a few years.. So....

1, Where can I buy new head studs?
    2. does any other bolts cross over? 18rc?

    Cheers for the help
