    So, riddle me this:

    Blue / purple = PCV
Yellow = Vac line to Brake booster
You might be able to see a red hose behind all of that under the inlet mani... PCV also?

Red = ????? what the fuck is that?

Purple = feed line to carbs
Orange = feed line to pump
    Green = return line????

Blue Purple, PCV. YES. The red tube under the manifold is also PCV, YES.

Yellow was originally supposed to go to an emissions reduction valve that sits ontop of the tappet cover.
Use it for your brake booster, YES. It is not worth finding one of those valves and dicking around to make it work.

The first red is part of the EGR set up. Remove it as the systems are never complete and usable by the time they reach Australia. There was also some sort of emissions control computer that was needed to make it all work and they were left in Japan.

Green is fuel in line from tank.
The other two lines are fuel out.
    Purple goes to carbs
Orange goes is return line to fuel tank.

    Excellent, thanks Steve.

Also after reading an old old thread where alot of you guys are saying this motor should be getting about 175psi on a comp test, i really think this is going to need a re-ring.

140psi, dry, cold. yes / no?

Also filter kits for the carbs? ideas?

Again, also, i have a few 18R-G bits sitting in my shed, make me an offer or they're going to scrap.

88210 head, crank (will need cleaning up / machining) x3 rods with munted pistons (9.7cr) lower timing gear, shit like that. Adelaide people can have it for next to nothing if you pick it up.

OH can people post pictures of their throttle linkage setup? I need to work out how i'm going to do mine...

184.6 psi cold and wet with 9.7:1 static compression is standard. 142.0 is the limit from the green book for a 9.7:1 engine. The later model engines with lower compression were around 160 something psi STD. The limit for the 8.7:1 18R-C is 127.8psi.

140 dry might not be too bad for lower compression engines.

    Filters:
Avoid the ramflo foam filters, I have regularly found dust inside the carby throats with these filters, they clog with oil from the PCV system (even with catchcan). They also melt a bit when the engine backfires. Paper box filters and pods are the only ones I'd trust to keep the dust out.

Cable is the way to go for linkages, way easier that solid links. Make sure you use good quality plastic coated cable or teflon lined cable sheaths so that the cable doesn't stick open.

    Great, thanks steve!

As an alternative to having my 'blue' pcv hoses (first picture i posted) jammed into the air filter backing plates, i was thinking about teeing it with the hardly-visible red PCV hose in the first picture, even if just to neaten it all up a bit.

    No reason why i can't?

    Javal,

    I trust this guy.
    www.atomicspeedware.com

I've bought two sets of customs from him and he has been great to deal with.
We fitted a set just last week . mmm 11:1 and 92bore. Should be fun. Hopefully they match up well to the brand spanking new HKS cams!!!$$$$

    On another note:

Had anyone posted that the 18RG upper timing chain, the long one, is the same as a Toyota 21R engine? It also has the same part number as some Porsches (I don't know which ones).

I was ordering a new chain and looked in the Sprint Auto Parts engine parts catalogue (Precision is the supplier) and saw two different chains listed for 18Rs
    18R 62 link and 18R-C 98 link.

The 98 link chain (3DR -98 CL) was just listed on the wrong page, it should have been on the next page for 18R-GEU.

When the chain arrived it was in a box parked Totyota 21R / Porsche. I have checked it and it is the same length as the original 18Rg one. SWEET!

I was just really surprised about this and thought I should post it.

    Hi,

That's the EPC. A very useful document, but it does not describe and document how to repair engines, including tolerances, steps and processes.
