nothing the Apexi PowerFC won't fix as you can lower the cam switch point making the agressive lobe more useable

we got 119kw at the wheels with the stock 2zz motor, our custom exhaust, pod air filter & power fx. with more stuffing around more kw can be obtained - but in a 550kg clubbie they are very, very fast.

the lotus 2zz uses a rover ecu in place of the factory toyota ecu. the factory imobiliser is a real bastard on these cars

Screaminrolla has 128fwkw in his Sportivo and does a high 14 second qtr. What you have to remember is that whilst the engine appears a bit dull in the celica and corolla, you have to look at the cars ppl are building with them. Even the Exige and Elises are so much quicker due to lower mass now take another 200-300kg out for a clubman and the thing will be nuts.

Oh and just to stir the pot 20V 4age aren't much to yell about either (but heck that was in a 1100kg car) you get the picture.

they just feel really flat and not torquey.

another issue is there were a number of recalls on these engines. im not sure if it was the south african ones or wherever else they come from.

theyre also very susceptable to damage from over revving.

i can tell you that whilst working at PAC for about 9 months, every single corolla sportivo we received was from S.A.

the celicas were all from JPN though.

I don't know of any recalls on the engines... the ECU maybe, but that was because we were given the wrong map. The Gearbox and clutch has had some issues for some people but that is universal to that gearbox and clutch set-up as celica owners have also reported problems. All Sportivos were from SA though.

the engine is no flatter and dead then any other NA 1.8L or even NA 2.0L for that matter

I know of 2 that have had replacements (one of them 2) but that was a long time ago and both due to miss-shifting.

Screaminrolla's sportivo makes more power before the big cams come on than any internally stock 20V that I have seen run on the dyno. Admittedly I don't spend all day every day on the dyno but I have been there all day for every single toymods dyno day except the first two.

The 2ZZ is a really power productive engine. Sure it's easy to think they don't make any power below the cam change point but that is because it makes so much more after the cam change over. Find some dyno's of the 2ZZ and compare the pre switch over curve to some other 1800cc engines and you'll see it's nothing like people make it out to be. The fact that it is also light and meets all current emmissions regs worldwide makes it a good option for swapping into new cars or ICV's.

They are sensitive to being over revved and losing valve heads. The only way this happens is from retarded driving though. To be honest I can't think of many engines that wouldn't be damaged if you had it pulling flat out at 8000rpm then shift it down two gears, which is what tends to be the cause of 2ZZ failures.

Depending what you read there around 1100-1200kgs. 99 onwards celica and 03 on rolla sportivos

The corolla redline is 8200 some of the earlier celicas as high as 8600 i think, it slowly got reduced due to people destroying them by miss shifting
