connect a catch tank inline to catch oil.
its normal to have some blow by but assuming the rings have beaded in properly on the run in it should be too extreme.
also maybe check that the PVC valve (if it has one) i clean and clear of shit.
Hi All,
I have recently rebuilt a 2TG for my TA 22 and it blows a lot of fumes, and oil from the breather on the top of the tappet cover.
I have a breather hose connected to the back carb but it still leaks oil from where the hose is clamped on to the tappet cover so it dosen't seem to be removing enough fumes from the engine.
If I fit another suction line to the manifold will this fix it and where should I put it to have maximum effect.
Cheers, Mal

Hi Mal.
If you have only the hose connected from the cam cover to a inlet manifold port then you will eventually suck all the oil out of the engine but it will run rather well as you are effectively creating a vacuum in the engine block.
The cam cover is the inlet port for fresh air so if you have it connected to the filter end of the carb this is correct. It will only work however if you also have the PCV circuit from the side of the block with its oil trap can attached and attached to the balance tube between the carbs on the manifold.
Fresh air is drawn in the cam cover and fumes air are drawn out through the PCV system to be burnt in the engine.
If you have only the cam cover connected the oil coming out is caused by the pumping effect of the pistons moving up and down the bore, air and oil mist will move in and out of that port.
As said above and if you have not got a PCV system in place then port the cover to a catch tank with a filtered breather and empty it out regularly.

Rodger
i hope for your sake that it's not blowby.
seeing as you have only just rebuilt the engine then this should not be the case.
i would check the PCV valve as stated by Rodger and go with the set up he has mentioned as it works best with most carbs.
thanks

Thanks Guys,
The engine is a 2T with a 2TG head and has no PCV system on it so catch can is probably the way to go.
Just neeed to know, is it possible to take the PCV system from a 2T and adapt it to the
new set up,or just stick with the catch can idea.
Cheers Mal

Mal.
Is there a large box, possibly black, hanging off the side of the block down near at the rear next to the oil filter? This is the PCV oil trap part of the circuit.
Or is there a cover plate or small blocked port?
The small blocked port is from a late 2T/3T block which had two ports off its rocker cover and the only way now is indeed to have the catch can.

Rodger
Hi Rodger,
Catch can ordered today,
Cheers Mal.
