Solexes, and I have no idea what kind of fuel pump I am running or its pressure...Originally Posted by Grega
I took the car to my mechanic, they sent away for the kits, rebuild the carbs and put them back on (it took them three weeks I might add *grr*)

whats the pump look like jill? a little square goldy colored thing (carter) or a round thing (most others) ?
maybe go back and visit the dudes that recoed the carbs and tell em its fouling plugs ect and see what they reckon?
Grega - I will take a look at it after my exam tomorrow...and as for the mechanics...they said when I picked it up "oh it might seem a bit lumpy when its cold w/e but its all cause you need a choke cable in it" Im not really impressed with them - the merest mention of needing something done to my car and its there for three weeks (every time) /end rant *LOL* I dont even know where the fuel pump is to be honest
where would it be? like near the carbs or something? (its too dark to go look now anyway)
I feel like the car has less power than before the carb rebuild![]()
hows the fuel economy?
sounds like it may be running to rich? are you getting black smoke out the exhaust?
there would have to be a fair bit of fuel going into the cylinder to bypass the rings, but its possible. i cant see how else its getting in there.....

Hi,
That's not good. Fuel dilutes the oil and therefore your engine will not be getting the necessary lubrication it requires. If your compression is okay, then there must be some other way the fuel is getting into your engine. Even if the rings were that cactus that fuel was getting into your oil, you'd know beforehand 'cos the engine performance would be quite poor (that is, such low compression).
I'll check through my 2T-G stuff tomorrow ('cos it's late and the old man needs his beauty sleep) and I'll see what I can find.

Thank you river - I need my beauty sleep too - exam to do tomorrow too - will check back here after.
Thanks to everyone who's been helping me out with advice and suggestions, that car makes me very happy and when its not running well Im not quite so happy.
Car shat itself again today (familliar story)not running on all cylinders I think....Im up at uni after dropping it off at b/f's work and taking the Lantra...
The saga continues...
*For reference - regarding your comp results. I don't think that your results are actually that bad.(The 210 is questionable in the wet test - perhaps test again when warm as suggested previously) These are what I measured on my fresh 2t/3t hybrid after 1000kms.
150 145 150 140 - dry
175 170 175 175 - wet (5ml oil)
Assumption is the mother of all f**kups...
My 2TG is running iirc, 100,80,120,100 or something like that
Still enough to win motorkhanas![]()
Thanks for that Shelldrake - anything encouraging helps at this point...
I dont know WTF is going on but theres something fking things up in my car bigtime - If I werent smack-bang in the middle of exam period I would take it to the toyota mechanics in town and see if they can do better than the other two lots of mechanics Ive seen so far have!!!
It's getting so frustrating - me and my car are getting a bit notorious in this town *LOL*Every time I buy a part and tell the shop its for a celica, theyre like "the purple one?" arghh
Worst part is being a girl cause they make me feel like an idiot *sigh*....the car will get going, the car will get going, the car will get going EVENTUALLY

Jill,
If the spark plugs were black its fouling the plugs, If your oil lever rose that quickly then whatever the problem its rather bad and you really need to limit the miles you do in the car until its sorted out. As already mentioned the thinner oil will not be lubricating the engine as much as it should and the 2TG doesn't run a great deal of oil pressure at low RPM at the best of times.
If its fouling the plugs it will be hard to start and can easily cause your missfire. Its a fair chance all your problems are being caused by the over fueling. Its also a fair bet your mechanis is way out of his depth with your car. They don't instill me with confidence if they couldn't identify an engine was overfueling to the extent yours is.
Does you lesser half have half a clue about cars or is he bigger than your mechanicA testosterone visit may help with there attitude and performance
It could be that your float heights are not set correctly in the carbies, ask the mechanics if they fitted new floats when they rebuilt the carbies. If not ask what the float height was like.
Deffinatly check Grega's suggestion about your fuel pressure. To much will give you a problem like your describing. You will need an inline fuel pressure Guage to check it of course and you need to check it just before it enters the carby. In the mean time tho try and find the fuel pump. The easiest way is to just trace the fuel line from the carbys and back to the tank. Describe anything the fuel lines go into. It could be bolted to the lower side of the block under the carbies. In which case your fuel pressure will be fine and not the cause of your issue.
River,
The 2T-GEU is allot lower compression than a 2T-G. The workshop manual lists the ideal compression result as 10kg/cm2 which is 142.2 PSI so I think its safe to say there is no problem with the compression results![]()

OK I think Ive found the fuel pump...its kinda hard to see since the cars so low and I dont wanna inch under there atm (had to drive it home so its warm) but anyway theres a cylindrical thing with wire connectors just in front of the fuel filter I think (obviously under the car twds the rear...so Im guessing thats the fuel pump...In the meantime Ive found a split washer in part of the thing that pushes the spring in btwn the two carbs (sorry everyone I dont know what its called) and the thing is loose but Im not sure how tight or loose it should be? but Im guessing that split washer isnt right ..
MG...........get some pics and put them up here mate
