Buy an inline guage if you want but cheap guages can give poor results so I recommned seeing if your "mechanic" has a good quality fuel pressure guage that can accuratly measure carby level fuel pressures. (Ideally you want a gauge that only reads to about 10psi so you get a really accurate reading)

This is true but a cheap guage will still be within a pound or two and tell if its a high or low pressure pump.
    Dale,

The pierburg is a low presure pump if thats what it is and I lean heaviliy towards it being one ! At the end of the day tho Jill should not need to buy a tool that she will only need to use once or twice. The mechanic who did the recent work should be happy to check it as a gesture of good will if not out of guilt.

Its been said a few time but the very next thing you need to do is check your fuel pressure just before it enters the carby. Buy an inline guage if you want but cheap guages can give poor results so I recommned seeing if your "mechanic" has a good quality fuel pressure guage that can accuratly measure carby level fuel pressures. If the pump is running more then that it is almost deffinatly your problem.

DO NOT ditch the pierburg pump ! it is perfect for the job ! What you do need tho is an inline fuel pressure regulator. I will check the 2TG storage lockers at my mums. I am sure I have one I can send you. Fit it inline and set the fuel pressure

If it would me I would capitalise on your being a female and call your mechanic, ask what fuel pressure your car has been tuned at. Since they diagnosed the problem and then charged you for a rebuild and tune they should know When they dont know and you can show them they stuffed up is when your boyfriend actually does become useful by gently suggesting the fit the reg I can send you. Set your base pressure and retune your carbies at no charge.

Say the word and I will copy the Solex Mikuni set up, tuning and rebuild pages in the workshop manual.

If it is a pierburg low pressure...We are back to the drawing board. Im hoping its a VL commo pump.

Totally aggree with you about the mechanic but damm it would be nice for a girl to go back to the experts and say...hey this is no good because.

Car is at the mechanics - hopefully they wont take eons this time in sorting it out - the guy at the desk understood exactly the situation when I explained it to him (about the fuel pump etc) and the guy who rebuilt my carbs is "no longer with them" apparently

Yeah and my boyfriend looked rather sheepish as the guy drew a diagram and explained back to me what I said to him and I said "thank you, there you are Tim thats what I was trying to say but you couldnt understand - now run along to all those people who you chatted to about me being wrong and the theory being impossible etc etc etc" HAHAHA

Guy at the desk agreed the mechanics should have realised - mechanics he spoke to agreed it sounds very likely - now just gotta wait till they get onto it ...

Got an old Magna loaner with an overheating issue to drive around in until they fix my car - I dont care - saves me taxi fares

PS. November 16th and we got SNOW here today! Armidale NSW

    Sounds promising Jill.

Fingers crossed they will get it right for you this time. Make sure they know you can supply the extract from the workshop manual re the carbs in case they need it. It could save you allot of time and is easily mailed.
