Semi Slick tyres

im a fan of thge khumo ectsa range of tyres..

last track day at wakefiled i ran ecsta's 205/55/16 on the front and falken ziex rubbish 225/50/16 on the rear....

uder braking the ecstas REALLY PULLED UP....really impressed for a street tyre! ..

but as for the falken ziex...as every one knows they were all over the shop



thats a track day...NOT a drift day...but still managed my PB of 1;18.602 sliding!

im waiting to try the yokohama range...once a set comes up cheap...2nd hand

I'm having dramas getting my car off the line, and I need some new tyres for rego anyway. Any more than 2500RPM on stall and it just breaks into wheelspin.
Do you guys still recommend the RT615? What do they usually cost for a 235/45R17? Or thereabouts? I think my rims are 17x8".
I baby the car in the wet, so wet weather performance doesn't bother me too much, as long as it isn't going to spontaneously snap out on me without warning.

I'll be buying some Mickey Thompsons for dedicated WSID drags, but these will have to do me for the meantime. Does anyone know where to get tyres cheap (preferably closer to newcastle but no essential), or what a good price on RT615's are?

im still a big fan of them. ive gone though a few sets and cant say anything but good things about them. although next set of semis will probaly be some a048r or d01j jsut becasue the car is on the street less.

I love my Azenis. Sure they have no hope in hell of keeping my car from wheel spinning when you are really on it but they're only 215's and are by far the grippiest street tyre I have used. Plus they're cheap and I have had them on for 18 months and it looks like there is plenty of life left in them.

I bought mine from Tempe Tyres, I believe they parallel import them and are by far the cheapest place around. Last time I checked it was 250 each for 235/40 17's.

the azenis are a great tyre bang for buck

for people hitting the track i.e places like wakefield there is ALOT of time to be found in the driver simply switching to semi's might give you a second or 2 here or there but you are much better off learning how to exploit time out of a street tyre they give alot more warning before starting to slip unlike a race like tyre.
Apart from costs this is the main reason racing schools use street tyres

once you have spent quite a bit of time on a street tyre make the transition to a semi

It'll be for straight line work only, not much cornering. Would the stiff sidewall on these be a bad thing for that?

Mate you are better off getting a second set of wheels and putting the M/T's on them and just choose whatever tyres you want for the street. Azenis are circuit style tyres so stiff sidewall and really aren't suitable for drags certainly not like drag radials are. I don't reckon Azenis would be much betetr than good street tyres because the sidewall is too stiff.

I've run 1.8 second 60 foot times on my Azenis and they definately hook up a hell of a lot better than any other street tyres I've run.

that said I will be buying a set of drag radials eventually but for a all purpose tyre I can't complain about the Azenis.

What are some 'normal' street tyres that are still quite sticky and reasonably affordable?

Agreed, I've run 1.7 second 60' times on the older Azenis RT215 tyres and the 615 is meant to be a better tyre - they don't make them in my size though so I haven't tried them.

I don't reckon Azenis would be much betetr than good street tyres because the sidewall is too stiff.

The Azenis range are just that, good street tyres, they are not a track tyre or r-compound tyre. They've been better than anything else I have tried in a street tyre for dry road traction.

Which Azenis model have you tried supra1jz because there have been a few in the rnage over the years??

Which is the exact reason I am onto about my 8th set, nothing else has come close to them sub ~$300/tyre. A true R-compound would just wear out too quickly for me and getting them up to temp on the street can be an issue too.

What is a good price on a 245/45R17 Falken RT615? Cheapest so far I can get is $320 each fitted.

i got my last set of 205/50/15 though tempe at $175 a pop. if your going down there to grab some want to collect some for me whilst your there i never seem to have the time to get there and am up for another pair.

Might get them to order them in, drive to Syd, get them fitted in the morning, then drive on to WSID

If I had somewhere to put them while racing then I could pick yours up, I'd need someone to pit for me or something. Daniel/Dieseltrain has offered but I'll have to make sure he's going to be there on that particular day.

Yeah I was about to say I got a set (of the older RT215) about 5 weeks ago from Tempe for $220 each fitted. They were 205/50R16 though.
