yes i pushed my gen2 twins on the dyno with long gears to get that power, i dont recommend going past 12psi with them on the street. I only did that on the dyno, i normally run them at 12 max.

The gen3 twins are good for up to 16 with a decent tune and ebc if they are in good condition. But wouldnt recommend pushing them above that unless you have got a decent aftermarket ecu and fiddle with things.

We blocked off the wastgates and managed to flow 17 psi with the gen2 twins before it got under serious load so they can flow that amount, we did this while setting up the crappy ebc i got before and was useing. It stock boost cut at just over 15psi, and run way way to rich, so we backed it off a little to around 14 and got the most out of it.

Got my gz20 dyno'd on the weekend.

    Gen 3 1GGTE
    Manual
    Cat back 3 inch stainless
    Front mount with 2.5 piping
    15psi

Pretty happy with the result, still either going single turbo or engine swap, needs more torque

I was more surprised than anyone haha, I guess if I did twin dumps + highflow cat it would more than likely get similar results to toymans 190 odd rwkw.

    If I go single I'll hopefully get 230rwkw and crack 400 nm's.

I wouldn't waste my time or money stuffing around to get more power out of the standard twins.

either leave it the way it is or go bigger single if you want to get more power and go to the step.

Yea I wont be spending anymore time modding the twins, still looking for a single manifold but they rarely come up

Any idea what sort of torque figures can be expected with say a 3071r or disco potato, honestly not fussed with peak kw but more increasing usable torque.

I would think if you want "more increasing useable torque" you would be better off keeping the stock twins as otherwise all you are going to do by going single is generally increasing everything further up the rev range, unless you go for a fairly small single turbo ..

Or better off go 1JZ & you Definitely won't look back then, except to smile & wonder why you didn't do it earlier ..

Turbo technology has changed a fair bit over the last 20 years, I wouldn't call the standard 1g twins efficient. A brand new well sized garret or similar will give great improvements across the board, you would be surprised.

Eightsixboy, I've not measured torque on mine, I'm running a 3076r which is very street able.

Has anyone else had issues with pinging? I've had issues with mine since I starting getting more power from it, pings when at peak torque around 3500-4500, retarding base timing to 5 degree's it still pings. I have a few spots in my area where I can drive next to a brick wall and get a lot of load in 3rd and 4th, wouldn't hear it in the cabin though.

Just wondering if the stock dump pipe is causing a massive restriction and causing high combustion temps? Only thing I can think of that could cause pinging.

If the exhaust is acting as a restriction it would possibly work like a EGR in that it might not allow complete scavenging of the cylinder & so diluting the incoming charge slightly & so would actually lower the combustion temps ..

I'm thinking it might have some hot spots in the combustion chamber from carbon build up or the engine could be using oil & the oil in the combustion chamber seems to contain the heat or alter the flame front ? not exactly sure what is happening there but Motors certainly seem to ping when using oil, some more susceptible than others though ..

I have driven cars over the years that on overrun down a hill you then hit the accelerator at the bottom of the hill, you then get a good short pinging rattle & some blue smoke at the same time & then fine after that ..

The exhaust is not the problem. I ran mine at 18 PSI with a completely stock exhaust from the turbo to the rear muffler, it had good power once the revs got up and had no engine problems or hesitation or pinging.

You will spend quite a bit of money on a custom manifold to put a turbo on a 1G-GTE. I would not go larger than a GT2860 if you are pulling a large car like a Soarer or Supra with a 2.0L motor. The 1jz-gte is just so much effortless even if you compare it to a 1g-gte with high boost.

The motor doesn't blow any smoke or really burn any oil that I have noticed (haven't had to top up once).

I dare say its getting a bit of oil into the intake and lowering the octane, I had a good look last night and this morning and the front turbo pipe from the compressor side is wet with oil (compared with other turbo) so I reckon the front turbo is spitting oil out during boost (afaik there stock 25 yr old turbo's).

Have a big decision to make in the next few weeks whether I keep the 1G or not, just about everyone who goes single seems to pop a motor, definitely won't be keeping the twins if I keep the 1G, I think a 1J or 2J might find its way under the hood soon .

You wont regret going a 1JZ route the only down side is they are noticeably longer than the 1G Motors not sure on the exact measurement difference, but I have seen a 1JZ even in corolla without cutting the firewall was tight up front though, so certainly can be done in a Supra etc ..

if your handy with a welder and soforth u could knock up a single manifold for around the $200 mark
im going to run e85 in mine now and ive got 1gge cams and cam gears with a t28 hoping for easily 200kw at 16 psi
