I remember the resistance of the XE/XF valves being something closer to 16 ohms when I measured a couple... but then it's a fair while ago, so I may be wrong. It may also be a reflection of 'production variation' within these particular vehicles;-)

If the VN (or Falcon) valves prove too big to control properly, why not just fit a restrictor in the air hose? If you set your base idle speed properly, it shouldn't be too hard to control everything as it should be.

Also, EA onwards (mullet-point) Falcons have got a bolt on idle valve that can sometimes be useful for adapting to things.

A restrictor won't really help, you're still stuck with the limited resolution until the valve opens as much as the restrictor will flow, then the valve will do nothing for the rest of its travel.

    digging up an old thread.....

... some recent work has forced me to start trying to use my XF idle valve on the MS-II. Talking to SAS, apparently in factory application the frequency is varied to the valve to vary the flow through it....

however 25-35Hz is apparently a good frequency for them, but they get damn noisy. Thus SAS run them at around 80-90Hz, but this reduces the window of resolution as the valve doesnt fully open/close at such high frequency.

I'm doing some more testing this week, and will post up what works for me.

Karl, i have a vague memory of someone telling me it was 50Hz that ford uses from factory to control it... or thereabouts...

tried different voltages (or total resistance) with different frequencies?

Have you toyed with the idea of a 20v 4AGE one for comparison? Surely someone with as much shit as you just has one lying around

For a pretty boy you seem to know a lot....

... yes i do have one lying around. Although the way i have the MS-II configured is with only one ISCV PWM output.

I try my best. I can't remember exactly, but isn't it a 2-wire PWM jobbie as well?

Sorry to bring up the past. Where would my best bet looking for one of these ford or 4age idle valves? Need something to remotely mount for my project. Wreckers perhaps?

I'll make some enquiries next weekend.

Sorry to dig up an old thread -
A little background - gen2 3sge int an st162. I bought the computer (microtech lt10s & x4 ignition module)and loom already to plug into the 162. Yes the car had been running a gen 2 also. Now, it has had a few bad wiring points throughout and i think i have fixed most of them.Main problem is I cant get the car to idle well.It doesnt have an ISCV wired in and apparently it ran ok before without. I have blocked off the ISCV with a solid gasket abd wouond the idle screw all the way in but can only manage to get the idle to 1500rpm.
I have rebuilt the engine so it is fresh and i wont drive around with an idle of 2000rpm.

Do i wire my 3 wire into auxout1 & 3 or would it be better for saving an output/control sake and retrofitting an XF PWM unit to it? Also, my damn thermos weren't kicking in(had to hard wire) and when turning off ignition car keeps running! Ive started back tracing all the wires and am eliminating 1 by 1 - any ideas fellas!!!!

    Cheers

an idle control valve can only let more air past the throttle, not less

sounds like you have a vac leak somewhere to me

Thought that as well - but i tried the old brake cleaner spray trick - no luck at all. Maybe it was just revving too high to tell!
