check that ports for AC idle-up and the TVIS (or whatever the 3sge uses) are not open to air or have broken hoses or solenoids.

i would have a look at the ISCV that you blocked off with a solid gasket - perhaps you have not properly blocked it off?

I had a similar problem when i blocked off the Aux air valve on my old 4age. Check that.
Perhaps fit it as per factory and see what happens?

Stu - The not turning off problem could be caused by a problem with your alternator wiring, being that the alternator keeps the ignition wiring powered up after you turn the key off..

So the air leak was actually my TB - wrong gasket. Made up a new one and its heaps better. Ive wound down the idle screw (both of them) and have the idle at about 1000rpm which is ok for now. Its going in for a tune, have an XF ISCv fitted and cold start all set up on the 23rd of Jan. Thanks for your input guys.

Will let you know how it all goes.

So what frequency do this XF valves work best at? I'm trying to set one up with a wolf.

Does the unit need to be earthed? And which wire is the +12volts (they are the same colour)

    here's a piccie:

    pic is dead

any chance of another pic of the xf item to confirm what i have sitting here (no pic)

    still available,

send me a pic of yours and i can confirm.

ports should be at 90* to each other, the unit bolts on with 3 unequal hole spacings (from memory)

    cheers

that doesn't look like a PWM valve...

It looks very similar to the 5M-E type ABV. They are normally open and get ignition power to them which then heats up a bi-metallic strip to close the valve...

    Not PWM...

    Cheers

agreed - very low-tech ABV and not PWM, not used since the mighty 5ME and Opel-derived things like the early Camira EFI engine - am amazed they were being used up until late 80's.
