this is how different, I'll put up a complete diagram in a couple of days, these are the wires and traces for C85 16 pin,
(There have been no mods to plug,)
    pin1 blue/pink
    p2 pink/black
    p3 grey/red
    p4 white/blue
second row, only 2 pins used
    p5 green
    p9 brown
    third row
    p10 light green
    p11 light green/red
    p12 blue
    p13 yellow
    bottom row
    p 14 vacant
    p15 green/red
    p16 yellow/green
    p17, p18 vacant

only 12 pins used on C85
    ECU part number 89661 22800
    1JZ- GT AT(automatic transmission)
definately from JZX100, I bought the half cut with ID plate.Had it running in cut, just hooked up a battery, tank and pump, fired and ran on first touch of key/starter. (Even the air con worked)

    Quick tip for you Splatt.
Toyota changed the wiring colours more often than you change your underwear.

Obivously the main colours have remained the same, (power, earths etc), but most of the time the sensor wire colours will change, sometimes up to 3 times in the one year.

Usually if the plugs are the same, and the pinouts are the same (location, number of), then the wiring is the same.

EDIT, just looked at the difference between your pinout and his.
I'd open the ecu up and look.

Thanks, this one looks like it's the same one that Graham, and Giant Tomato posted, I think if you look at their posts it will fill in the gaps, the Chaser whole car one is out there on the net , semi- translated.
I have found a few manufacture date codes on some of the plastic bits, most made November/December 1996, so I think I am safe to assume that it's a 97 model,
Following Giant Tomatos advice I have spent 2days with a multi-meter (one more to go) tracing wires from engine bay to ecu,not only are the colours radically different but the pins used areTOTALLY different! There are FIVE other plugs on the engine loom as well as the 4 ECU plugs
I should have most of them logged this week, will post list as soon as I get them all down. -twitch,twitch!

Does anybody know if the ECU is the same for the 1JZGTE VVTi JZX100 and the VVTi JZZ30 Soarer?

Im looking at getting a Power FC for my soarer, only thing is it came from a JZX100 and i believe these are a straight swap into the loom. Anyone know if it will swap in ?

    Thanks,

    Dylo

part number on 1997 1JZ Vvt Auto Chaser is in photo, don't know part number for soarer,
As you can see from thread there were at least 2 different ECUs used in JZX100 s(both turbo and auto, and there is a different one again for manual trans. ECU in auto controls transmission as well,-this is a completely different trans to non Vvt models like JZX90 TT)
confused??some wire colours showing in pic, it gets worse!
    good luck.

I'm not using the JZX100 speedo,Wire from the VDO I have will run to plug in ECU, Sorry can't help, but the ECU is under dash on top of glovebox, without removing dash, can't even see it.(and if I did there is a chance it would be using different wire codes, why, why, why does Toyota use several, completel;y different coded looms???)

I am as new here as new gets and admittedly here mostly for this wiring help. Hi to everyone on here from the old US of A.

I am swapping a 1jz vvti M/T from a jzx100 into my R32 Gtst and have found all this info in this (ollldddd) thread very helpful. I figured rather than start a wiring thread as my first post, I would just revive the one that helped me so much so far.

    I have two basic questions.

    1. What is the plug that comes out of the engine loom and has 15-20 Black/white stripe thick wires in it for? power to sensors? I DO NOT thiink it is ground as grounds have been brown or white/black stripe so far.

    2. Since I am not using traction control/do not need fuel pump turn on through ecu/ do not need gauges to work through the ecu harness/etc. Can I just power up the basic stuff that gets power on the 28 pin and 16 pin connector, ground what needs grounding, and fire this thing up????

Thanks for all your help in advance!
