surge tank setup: is this dodgy?

the point of this thread is to ascertain the right ways to mount the thing. its hard to find a tank for $100 with the inlets in the right spots. we dont all have stacks of cash floating around

the way you have this is correct - the overflow at the top, outlet at the bottom, and preferably lift below return line [hotter fuel on top - more likely to return to tank].

having the lift at the bottom or top of the surge makes NO difference. the lift pump is not a pressure [head] device. it is a volume device - so big lines low pressure. the surge tank purpose is not for pressurising it is solely to ensure the outlet is NEVER uncovered - but obviously better if full. the return line IS better at the top because if full the warmer stuff is more likely to return to fuel tank.
