22RE BIG TROUBLES! cutting out mysteriously...

HEY boys and girls!
well get off the 18rg for a sec because i gotta ask someone about my 22RE!!!
Had this '85 corona avante for about 10 years (been in the family), and it was a reliable and clean car.

One day the engine decided to burn all of the oil and it seized! ha ha ha, funny but not when you're on your way to work at a bar on a busy friday night!

Anyway, we got a fullt rebuilt 22RE from a newer hilux and put it straight in, worked great for several months, untill all of a sudden, we have no low end power! a quick new fuel filter and a tune up fixed that, but i went to go home from a mates place last night, it would start, but after about 5 seconds the "engine check" light would flash, switch off, then switch on and cut the engine!
we had a quick look around the engine in the rain and thought it could be a wet distributor, but alas, it was bolted on! so i more than likely wasn't!
i was thinking it could have been some computer sensor thing we may have accidentally disconnected when we changed the fuel filter but who knows?

it would idle fine when it was on but then just cut out!

has anyone encountered this problem before? please help me!

P.S: applying napalm liberally and standing away is not a solution! (pointing at YOU, WITZL!)

If it has a check engine light, pulling the ECU codes should be the first thing you should try

hey,
actually i was checking it out just then and there was no pressure in the fuel filter, and throught the powers of deduction, found that it was the fuel pump that died through many many years of sucking gunk from the fuel tank (lament on P plates with low cash and not being bothered to fill it up on "E", namely ME!) oops...
