if you still have the 7m, you can probably pull the sender out of that and put it in the 1j.. the 1j sender is just near the top outlet..
Cheers Peter, I assume that if a 1j sender works with a ma61 digi-dash then it'd have to be pretty much the same output as a 7m one![]()

I have one thermofan hooked up that comes on whenever my ignition is on not ideal I know but it works.
I noticed that the thermo which is located infront of the radiator is sucking air through the radiator towards the front of the car.
Is this a bad setup, I thought it should be setup to suck air from the front to the rear and work with the air flowing through the radiator naturally.![]()
Should I be looking at changing it's location?
Thanks

Change the polarity of the terminals. If it works better for you leave it.Originally Posted by Mr Multivalve

ok thanks for that

be very sure its blowing forward though.. get a strip of paper or something and hold it a bit back from the fan.. sometimes with your hand it feels like they are blowing when its just the air moving around the blades..
OK, I've bought a new temp sender unit, but while testing wiring etc I have found that the temp gauge isn't even getting the temperature from the temp sender unit! Removing the plug completely from the unit makes no difference to the reading on the temp gauge. Before I go pulling my dash apart to start tracing wires, anybody have any idea where else the temp gauge could be getting the temperature from??
And just to make sure I'm looking at the right thing, the temp sender is the circled part in the photo, right?

I am not sure which one it is, but the ECU needs to measure the temp as well and you have three other connectors and sensors on that assembly in the photo. Have you tried all of them?
Yes, you have correctly circled the dash temp sender.
I'm not sure with the MA61 either.
I know when I unplugged the one on mine, the guage didn't change at all.
But it may have a timer in there of sorts, or something along those lines.
I didn't try unplug it, and THEN turn on the dash though.

BrianRA23: No, I haven't tried all of them, it's probably easier to start tracing wires back from the gauge to work out where it's getting the temp reading from. I think it's going to have to be something that doesn't also give a temperature reading to say the ECU, as the car runs the same as it always has. Idle doesn't drop too quickly when cold as I would expect if it's reporting the temp higher than what it actually is.
CrUZida: I did try it with sender unplugged when I started the car...no change and the temp gauge went up as it always has been. I'm going to go pull the dash apart now and see what I can find.
Ok, while I haven't yet found where the temp gauge is getting its readings from, I have found what I think is the other end of the wire coming from the temp sender unit:
This appears to be the only yellow-green wire coming from the engine bay. It goes into the grey plug but the other end has been cut off and goes nowhere.
I've found a yellow-green wire going into a plug into the back of the digi-dash and according to http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/librar...I/e/E_009.html, this is going to be the wire that goes to the temp sender unit. I've still got to try and trace this wire to see where it ends up. Hopefully it's somewhere near to the one coming from the engine bay and I can join them.
EDIT: I've traced the wire from the back of the digi-dash as much as I could but I can't trace it far enough without taking the entire dash out of the car, which I'm not going to do. I think the best option for me is to run another wire from the cut one in the picture to the one going into the dash and see what happens...

This and the next couple of pages is what you want.

Dave,
I have found exactly the same thing when looking into my MA61 5MGE (stock) wiring. I was able to unplug the temp gauge sender and the gauge still read the same.
At the time I couldn't be stuffed finding what was going on - so I can't be much help.
But I'll be interested to see what you find out.
Peter
Well, I didn't end up finding out where the gauge was getting it's readings from, but I've wired it up correctly now it and it works much better... Now when the sender unit is unplugged the gauge stays on the bottom mark and if I earth the wire it jumps to the top mark. The fan is turning on at pretty much the same point that it used to now, I still think there is a heap of air in the system that I still need to get worked out but it definately isn't overheating.
Good stuff.
