Default 7m air fuel ratio issues

hey had car recently dynoed and got 313.1rwhp at 17psi..

to my surprise my air fuel ratio at max boost was 11.2.. on previous run it was round 11.5 ish.. nothing near going lean...

to my knowledge i have standard injectors and i have no other fuel mods either.. on the way to 17psi when boost was lower the AFR was off the scale (<9 )

not that im complaining bout 11.2 at 17 pounds but it makes it bog down hard when its on its way to making full boost...

any tips, hints etc... or does anyone have SAFC or similar for sale.. cheers

JayCar fuel air ratio controller man. $80 to buy, then you have to assemble it yourself. I just made mine, it's getting tuned on tuesday. You will need a hand controller with it, but you can borrow mine to tune it if you need. 128 load points, so it's far superior to an SAFC as far as outright tuning, and you don't get a wanky little display

just out of couriosity how much is the hand controller, as the car is constantly having shit modified and replaced it would be conveniant to have one, what car did you put it on? how hard is it to assemble, (electronics and soldering im guessing) and finally how does it connect to the car? wired into the computer or plug and play?

    cheers man

I don't think the Jaycar one works with the Karman Vortex AFM, they use a frequency rather than a voltage.

any other suggestions? i cant really afford to go all out on a computer or anything coz im a poor ass uni student with VERY limited income, something like the $80 option would be fantastic, as long as it works.. the max i could spend is something like $300, but that is after i pay matty for some other parts.. i dont wanna sound like a tightarse, but the cheaper the better..

    cheers

Buy a secondhand SAFC. While not perfect, it'd probably be the best option for your car...and you

SAFC does what it's sposed to and can be found cheap on ebay (sub $200 for the SAFC 1), easy to wire up and the "wanky" display provides useful info and easy tuning

yeah, your prob right, how much do they go for on average? for now i might have to put up with coating other cars in heaps of unburnt fuel goodness..

cheers all, any further suggestions would be appreciated... apart from GET A JOB YOU POOR BASTARD, i've already had that one

    cheers

Stock injectors will supply fuel close to 390hp for you before totally leaning out

You just need to knock some fuel out across the rev range.

i would recomend the SAFC if you had to or maybe an emanage.

I think an e-manage would be out of the question unless i could find one REALLY cheap, i think the best bet so far is SAFC, given the Jaycar option is out??

im only hoping for about 350rwhp out of the car so i guess if the factory injectors are ok then i will keep them...

im hoping that with a new manifold and external gate i will be able to give it more boost and hopefully get some more power..

at the moment the internal gate seems to limit the turbo at 17psi, when it is just starting to run efficiently..

    cheers for all the advice
    keep it coming

The hand controller is about $60 from memory, www.jaycar.com.au has info. I imagine that if the SAFC works, so would the jayCar, unless the SAFC has something built in to allow frequency modulation? Might have to do a bit of research. Either way, I'll post up a before and after dyno graph when mine gets tuned on tuesday.

Edit: The hand controller can be used for all sorts of things, like their EBC module (again, about $80)

I've got a complete Jaycar DFA and Hand controller i'm not using sitting here. From what I gather, it doesn't work with the frequency output of the Karman Vortex AFM's.

The SAFC has different settings for the type of airflow sensor used eg: karmann, flap, hotwire etc

ahhhh...that'd make sense. Is there a frequency modulator you can adapt to use with the jaycar? But if you're going to go that far, just get an SAFC...Jshop do them new for $400, or EBay a 2nd hand one...
