Default 4AGE Oil pumps and compatability

    hey guys,

have an AE93 SX, factory 100kw smallport, completley stock..

the oil pump, around the front main seal area has been horribly damaged from some idiot trying to lever off the belt gear with lever bars...

unlike me who spent 5 mins drilling and tapping some M6x1mm holes in it and puling it off..

thats besides the point.. i have 2 options,

1 - pull the oil pump housing off, set it up in the mill and recut the seal seat as the leverl bars have bent alot of material down, closing up the face... perhaps having to get a bigger seal, or bore it O/S and press a sleve in bore to the correct ID... get gaskets etc.. assemble..

2 - AISIN Engine Oil Pump OPT-034 Toyota Celica ST Corolla 1.8L | eBay

    or

AISIN Engine Oil Pump OPT-031 Toyota Corolla 1.6L '85-'87 | eBay

ofcourse the new pump sounds like the easy option... but as far as i can tell the OPT-034 if for a 7afe, and the OPT-031 is for a bigport, 3 rib block...

as mine is the 'bigger' oil pump for the 7 rib, with oil squirters.... would there be any i'll effect to fitting one of these pumps?? the engine will most likley stay stock, aside from basic breathing mods... i won't be punting it around the track etc... it's just a daily..

i just don't want oil leaks!

but toyota pumps are made by AISIN...

$299.85 my price through toyota.... for the 'toyota stamped' AISIN pump... hence why i was trying to get the direct AISIN pump for 1/3 the price...

30% of AISIN is owned by toyota... etc etc... history right back to it's foundings...

Just stick a aftermarket one in, they are not that shitty and I cant see a stock 4AGE breaking one?

depends how hard you rev em... seen plenty tgp pumps in cars happily revving to 9500 all day every day though....

Yeah the TGP ones are pretty damn good but for a bone stock 4AGE in a daily, man, I would just be going down to Bursons and buying one for $80.
Probably not as good but oil pumps are pretty simple and most aftermarket gear is not that bad in all honesty.

If the impeller gears are good (The engine manual has the allowable tolerances) in your Toyota unit, why not just stick them into the after market housing?

i ended up buying an AISIN pump (aka toyota genuine) $120 with the 2 gaskets and front main..

although i will probly go to the bearing shop next door and get a NOK seal # AH83381 (aka toyota genuine main seal) for a couple of dollars, vs paying $18 for the NOK seal in a toyota bag..

pump arrived the other day, just incase anyone was wondering.. they are the real deal.. pretty funny how they can't actually sell stuff with Toyota printed on there..

Not to mention the toyota 10 digit part number printed on the sticker, in much smaller font than the AISIN part number..

Check the gear inside the housing to make sure you got the good version. Google my username + oil pump and you should find a thread on club4ag or hachiroku.net that has the measurements and gear design.

I've had a few of the different pumps early/late. The photo's on ebay of the rear of the pump look like the later type wave pump (oil squirter type).

A photo of the back would be good but the innards would be great.

Very tempted to get one for my rebuild, have primed and fitted a silvertop pump but just not sure on a new pump or not.

i'll take it apart on the weekend, i was doing some light reading on toyoDIY - confirmed that every pump from AE86 4A/4AC right through to smallport 4AGE/GZE had the same oil pressure releif spring, and valve part number. that was my main concern... as mentioned this is just a stocker.. and won't see any more than normal road use, with the info on Bill's 4A website it would seem that any pump is acceptable, and more than enough for any stock encarnation of 4A, only when pushed into serious RPM are the 'smaller' ones an issue..
