I have somewhat of a similar drama to RA23 atm... I bought a motorbike so I could run around while I install the 18R-GTE and paint the RA28. The end is in sight for the bike though, so I should be back into the GTE very soo.
OK, here is what happened: I got sidetracked "renovating" our house. I might as well have built a new one, that would have been less time. Anyway, the end is near and The Shed (note capitals) is soon to be erected. As soon as that is up, that is where I will liveOriginally Posted by RA28tragic

i decided i need to buy some houses..... so that meant im on a massive savings plan
The engine is still being built tho. Which reminds me, i need to give JMR some money![]()

I can understand a need for "some engines" or "some cars", but "some houses"...Originally Posted by The Witzl

"some houses" now means that in the future there will be MANY cars and MANY engines
doing it the other way around doesnt work.

Back on topic.A while ago I read someone was chasing oil pump alternatives for 18RG (was that you Witzl?). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has ever had a look at (turbo) diesel oil pumps. They should have quite a bit of capacity. Would there be a 2.4 or 3L turbo diesel engine that is compatible(ish)? Either the entire pump or just the rotor?
Is this worth investigating, or am I on drugs?

Been thinking about how i was going to over come the oil pump problem so i've been looking down the external pump setup there is enough room down below the dizzy to mount a pump driven off the spare pulley on the crank the only problem i could think of is if you belt snaps you have lots of trouble coming quickly. The other idea i had was to utilise the other end of the blanace shaft where the large welsh is and adapt a pump there which would be harder to achieve.
I did find this web site.

yeah it was me wanting larger oil pumps.
my "idea" was to find something with a similar shaft, and similar/same impeller diameter, but with taller impellers. You could then make a larger spacer for teh pump.
Kinda like how the 18RC and 18RG pumps differ.
if only i had a calaogue of oil pump impeller gears to look over.

Hi,
There actually was a taller pump made - the "TRD" special. The impellers were 10mm taller than the rc, and 5mm taller than the rg. I've been toying with the idea of making a taller impellor setup by using 2 18rc pumps. With some precision cutting dowelling there is no reason that it won't work (that i can see anyway) I'll have a play one day as i have about 4 rc oil pumps and they are common as dog poo anyway.

Hi all,
I'm currently stuffing around with Inventor at home so i can get a better visual idea for everyone. Should be pretty easy and i know a guy that is a good machinist who can assist me. Once i have suitable plans we'll knock one up. I think i'll go for a 10mm larger for starters. Should have pics up tonight of the plans.

Hey guys,
Here some quick pics of my theoritical extended oil pump. The dowels that i've used are 4mm diameter and 20mm long going 10mm into each plate. We'd also need to make the spacer block as well but i think that would be amongst one of the easier parts. The dowells would need to be a very tight fit to eliminate any play in them and potentially being a showstopper. This was all done in autodesk inventor. I'm only very new to it and haven't figured out animations properly yet but i should find out more at tafe this week - if anyone knows how to get it working then i can send them the assembly file.
My guess is this would pump about 20% more than the 18rg pump as the impellor is 5mm longer than the rg. The original (bigger bits) in the pics are taken from the 18rc pump as that is what i have on my desk next to me.
So, next trick is to get to a machinist and try it all
