Pic of 18rg rotary compressor bracket
Cheers Dave
will see what i can do.
currently one bracket is buried, and the other is attached to the aircon compressor.
oh, and that bolt is there, you just cant see it behind the intake manifold stud

+ reppage to me airfire much appreciated,
@ mr witzl if you could it would be great, once i find a compressor i will attempt some awesomeness.
cheers

Yes its true, im 110% awesome.
You can see there is farkawl space for the runner from no.1, maybe 3" at most from the gasket face to the aircon compressor coming directly out.
P.S. River, i found that the compressor is still in full working order. The price just went up

mmm that is darn close the number one, am i able to use the rc compressor with this bracket or is it a rg only item, if it is a rg only item i might look into finding a universal compressor or a later model that will provide some more room.
thank you + rep and all that.

depends really.
The aircon was fitted as a dealer option on the 18R here in australia, so parts vary depending on what year it was installed, and from what dealer, etc.
Personally... i would just find another rotary pump (modern) denso aircon compressor with a V belt pulley and make a braket to suit that. I think having an ugly aircon compressor sitting up so high and prominant in the engine bay is mildy retarded.

Hi,
They must have changed the style of compressor between 1973 and 1977 'cos the one in The 88 looks totally different. That one, in the above pic, looks like the one in Trini.
I am not up to speed on air con compressors, but that one looks like a rotary pump(?) where as the one on The88 looks like a piston type pump.

ahhh cool, i kind of assumed that they would have used the same pump throughout engine's.
anyhow thats for the info, if and when i get a bracket made up or have anyother ideas, ill post away and all can see how badly i weld.
cheers

Is that all the brackets that it came with? Seems a lot of weight to hang off the side of an alloy head. The brackets for my RG air con have two braces underneath. One intergrated into the alternator bracket and the other comes up from the engine mount.
See Here 18RG Air con bracket thread

Hi,
That's the same bracket and compressor inThe 88.
They must of changed the air con and brackets for the 76 onwards models?

the plot thickens, looks like i will have to find a compressor before i can think about the bracket, thanks all for the info.
cheers

yes the changed from piston type aircon compressor (extremely inefficient and massively robbing of power), to the far more efficient and less power robbing "rotary" type compressor.... somewhere between the 18RG and 18RGEU.
Also, the weight of the piston type aircon compressor would probably be about 500000 times more than the rotary one.

Now back to talk of turbo 18RGs. River is going to lunch his autobox, and its going to be hilarious.

Hi,
Naaaa, my autobox will be fine.
The diff.. maybe another matter.
Not sure about the newer air con units being a lot more efficient as the unit in The 88 can frost the vents, but the one in Trini doesn't.

they air more efficient in the sense that they drain faaaar less engine power.
And your diff will outlast the auto. The torque of your setup is going to turn your torque converter into mush IMO. The old 18R auto box just isnt designed for ANY amount of realistic power.
