    great reply

my engine is a 2.2L and it redlines at about 7500 even up towards 8000 depending on how much time i spend tuning the solex's, yeah i run shell's high revving and turbo engine oil (got from kmart when it had 20% extra for free) its great

also i have heard some things about adelaide fours and rotaries that you had planned to tune with, some good others very bad. have been told to go to more power? i personally havent heard about them. they are microtech dealers, not sure i want one of those either though

im just about ready to go full steam ahead with the turbo and the comp, just waiting to put a custom tail shaft in and an appropriate diff ratio to get the old girl on the road so i can take it to be tuned

My old turbo 2litre was regularly revved to 8000rpm both on and off the track. I had a TRD oil pump, the crank was cross drilled, 6kg billet flywheel and swinging gate baffles in an extended sump bowl. Pretty simple mods really and worked well. You do have to watch what grade oil you use based on your bearing clearances though.

Mine were to the more open end of the scale for longevity and i had to run a reasonably heavy grade oil to maintain good oil pressure.

Oil pressure gauge is a must...but then that's the case for any perf engine i reckon.

That's one of the great things about the 22R crank, they were like that from the factory.

How much different were the TRD oil pumps?
I've never seen one and they are no longer available.

    SillyCarS,
It was fours 'n' more that I was think about going to, not Adelaide Fours and Rotaries.
Could you PM me a summary of the issues you've heared of? That way the thread won't be cluttered up.
Fours 'n' more are a microtech dealer too, incase I didn't mention it earlier.

I spoke to an engineer yesterday and I may get the tuning done somewhere else where they can tune it to pass emissions. My project will be fully legal for insurance reasons.

Sounds great steve, i'll ask more q's and look further into it. I dont wanna start bagging people without a leg to stand on. That engineer sounds great, would be interested in doing mine sometime soon as well, im having second thoughts about microtec i think it will do the job quite adequately. Im just rapping up the sale of my motorbike and im hoping to have the car finished by the time march comes around.

Almost got the rear drum to disc conversion done, pug/hilux/rona to be done before chrissy and then im gunna take to it with some paint. Still need turbo manifold & dump pipe, (hopefully justen opens the shop back up ) comp, minor plumbing and a tuner.

Steve, the TRD oil pump was most larger capacity. The pump chamber bit...the actual term escapes me, long day....was approx 10mm taller from memory, ie the impeller was quite a bit larger. produced 60psi at idle so may have been high pressure as well or could have just been the grade oil i used which was quite heavy.

well being larger capacity means it would be pushing a greater volume of fluid with the same RPM - thus higher pressure.

Of course the terminal oil pressure would've been dependant on the pressure relief valve.

For reference - my 18rg reaches terminal pressure at ~2500-3000rpm. Terminal pressure is aboot 60psi on my el-bodgo gauge, and it idles with about 20-25psi oil pressure.
NB: i dont trust the accuracy of my gauge, i only use it as an indication.

Thanks Justen, that's the info I was looking for.
Chances are the rotor and other parts are standard for another toyota engine.

what would our options be now, i can only imagine how hard a trd pump would be to find

options are pull apart a billion other oil pumps and find something semi-compatible for a taller drive gear and squeeze it in with a larger spacer..

    ... fun fun!

In a time long past in a country far, far away.

If someone invents a time machine with a big enough storage space for my 18RG parts list, I'll fight you all for the spare seat.

    yo,

for those who want a turbo manifold, i suggest you do what i did and grab a cheap sr20 (similar port spacing) one off ebay and have an exhaust shop change the exhaust flange over, is going to cost me ~$350 as opposed to a custom manifold of say $500 to $600

    PS: port spacing

    SR20

    PORT 55 PORT 55 PORT 55 PORT

    18RG

    PORT 60 PORT 72 PORT 60 PORT

NOTE: the aftermarket manfold has larger diameter pipes that make matching the ports up pretty easy, any good exhaust shop should be able to do it, IF NOT YOURSELF!

Decided to go with a 1g for the time being, going out to inspect it tomorrow. Im going to have to build the 18rgte throughout the semester as i havent got time to play with it due to having to work to pay for it all and uni. Im thinking about molesting a ke20 with it later on...

Good news, not buying the 1g, I sat down this morning after taking a look at the halfcut and worked out the pro's and cons and have decided to just save up a bit more cash and finish what i have started now wrather than later. May be catching public transport for a month or two when i sell my fireblade for some extra funding.

    Craig,

what is the exhaust manifold in the top right hand corner suited for (engine and turbo)? Looks neatish.... and possibly easier to fit than my current log manifold.

I do like the collection. One day, soon hopefully, i'll be clearing some shelves to put all my turbo bits in one location.

    So far i have:
    - turbo
    - 660cc injectors
    - log manifold
    - chinanationalracingebay intercooler
    - Megasquirt-II
    - Innovative LC-1 wideband oxy sensor + controller
    - sard adjustable FPR
    - RN27 hilux diff
    - custom billet H-beam rods
    - collections of engines and engine parts

and much much more.... The turbo swap does seem imminently close, but before that happens i need to get the Megasquirt-II running properly and become condifent with tuning it. Then i need a few spare $$$
