Zane mate, you could have posted the completed pics...you'll give me a bad nameIn my defense, the more jury rigged parts are because this was the trial run to test loom, plumbing etc etc was OK before final assembly.
How's she running anyways?
Food for thought.

Let me know if this didn't work...
This is the thing Mr GT8 and I were working on last year.

OK, time for me to join the 18R-GTEU club (soon anyways)
What I have:
CT26 from Gen2 3SGTE
85A alternator (Witzl stylz - was fitted by Simon before I got the RA28)
New clutch with resurfaced flywheel
Electronic ignition
Good MIG Welder
Rugged good looks
What I have lined up:
18RGEU minus EFI - needs a reco due to BHG (suspected - low compression between 2&3)
18RG EFI gear - still sussing the details could have suitable ECU already
What I need:
Cheapo Intercooker
Misc. Plumbing for IC etc
18RG exhaust flange, CT26 turbine flanges
What I need to manufacture myself:
Turbo Manifold
Dump Pipe
2.5" exhaust
Air Con bracket (yep... that power sucking thing that helps stop me sweating my ring off in Mackay's heat with Mackay's fucked up lights system that makes you wait at one set for 20mins or more)
Fuel system
So... what are the limits of the 18RGEU injectors?? Will 5ME injectors fit... and not be a waste of time?? What are the limits of an ACL MonoTorque head gasket??
I want to get 180ish RWHP out of this thing reliably, but will settle for less if there is a great cost decrease in doing so. Also, has anybody had any of the flanges I need lazer cut before?? And if so, can you pass on details of who/how much. If not, I will draw them up in ACad and get Linden to cut them for me. I really wanna make this thing a budget item, as any monies going toward it are being taken away from my SA23 project... so a $2k budget would be nice. I already have RT133 front struts/brakes, so will just need a pair of RA60 discs and MX62 callipers to make a more than adequate braking setup. The W50 should handle it, and the T series diff has been babied by an auto 18RC all its life, so shouldnt be stressed.
As far as what can I do myself... well I can make the exaust system, weld any of the steel components (and some stainless/aluminium), all wiring, all plumbing, engine assembly... basically anything that doesnt involve machine work, so the only outsourceing I will do is bore honing, head decking and crank linishing.
Any hints/suggestions on what the limits are/what I can do cheaply to increase these limits would be great.
Cheers, Owen

i have a laser cut flange and an sr20 manifold with its flange cut off that requires min mods to get a nice high mount turbo on 18rg
i was going to do this but i went 18rg > 1g > 1jz (soon)
Highmount is no good for me... I really dont like the look of it. I will just run some heat shielding and a lowmount. Also the SR20 mani wont work for the CT26... and is probably cast iron, in which case it wont weld to the steel flange (too much carbon in it)
Could be interested in the laser cut flange though.

Here is a question for you all... what are stock 18R-GUE cams like under turbo?? Can I just rotate them such that there is little overlap, or will I need to get a re-grind?? My understanding is that
big overlap + turbo = no good
Anyone got experience with these cams??
Cheers, Owen

LOL stock 18RG cams don't have 'big' overlap...they will run fine. I ran far larger cams than stock on the final version of my 18RGT and it loved it.
Just for info a common 'step 1' upgrade for turbo motors is to swap in the n/a version cams eg 3SGE cams in for 3SGTE as they are usually a little more aggressive.

Hmm... so Justen can you confirm what version of the 3S-GE cams will go with my Gen2 3S-GTE?? I am trying to get a lot of reliable and driveable power and torque out of the Gen2 with minimal outlay.
Oh, and how much overlap would you look at using (seeing as we are talking about the later adjustable 18RG cams here)

GEN III n/a cams are the ones you want but i wouldn't bother chasing them as such, just pick them up if you come across a set. Stock cams won't hold you back until well over 200rwkw so just screw in the boost
There's no rule of thumb for overlap but i recall 20th Century perf having a decent section on cam centres to aim for
