It should not be necessary to get new shafts made. Saves some effort, headache and $. The "kit" only needs to have the inner gear, the outer gear, a spacer and a new shaft pin.Originally Posted by MnToyGuy

But the shaft would need to be 5 mm longer than the standard RG one.......
We could have shafts cut and a spacer welded in, but then you are dealing with warpage.

or just leave a gap
or create a ridge in the inner gear
all 3 options easier than making a new shaft??
18rg or 18r shaft can be used...

Hi,
Realistically if you left a gap it shouldn't effect the design of the pump and should flow fine. Can't really see it making any difference. The downside though is if the shaft CAN possibly move in the gear then there is a rediculously small chance it could vibrate its ass down and then not be driven by the gear off the pump drive shaft. Don't think an engine would last long then. I vote for pressing in a spacer. Seems like the best, safest and easiest option.

I agree. BTW I sent you a PM with my email for the drawing. I have done some measurements and made a sketch as well. Will be interesting to compare.Originally Posted by roadkill

Hiya,
just sent it off to ya. Hopefully we are much the same. Either way i think what i have come up with will work. I'm gonna take mine to tafe this week to see how we can run it in innventor. That should tell us if there are any points where it won't work (maybe....)

Okay guys, I'm back from your time zone (almost). I brought the pump to my machinist and showed my engineer today.
Impellor and housing need to be wire EDM'd. Spacer is easy (maybe even waterjet) with 2 surfaces ground and the ID milled (maybe). The shaft could be made on a lathe with a mill operation for the end slot.
We can use the same shaft. It's pinned, so it can't vibrate loose and the space in the end of the impellor won't affect function.
I need to check the drawings this week and get an RFQ out to some wire EDM shops. The spacer and shaft, we can make in our shop. I'm assuming 25 sets. Probably next week before I can get things pulled together.

Thanks Ben, but we aren't out of the woods yet. Things are looking promising, but we need to see where prciing comes in. Just a gut feeling but I'm hoping to come in at $100 per kit. Honestly it could be 2-3 times that or a little less. It all depends on what we can get quoted out of the EDM shops.
The thing we have to develop is tolerances and I haven't checked the geometry in the drawings yet. My engineer says the geometry shouldn't be a big deal and EDM can hold tolerances much tighter than we need.
Does anyone have a new 18RC pump? It would be nice to be able to measure shaft dimensions on a new item. No hurry on this, as we need to see where EDM $$ come in before anything else.
Hi,
i've got one in great condition and may be fairly new as the engine it came off was extremely clean and had just been rebuilt. Altrnatively http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-TOYOTA-HIL...QQcmdZViewItem

Okay Ben, we got the drawing issues resolved. We actually ended up re-drawing it. One question, did you measure an R or RG pump? My measurements on an RG pump were 0.75 mm different. It shouldn't matter as long as the geometries fit, I'm just curious.
Hey champ,
i measured it off an rc pump but the measurements were only done with a ruler as i don't have anything more accurate at home so there was definately going to be innacuracies! The rc and rg should be the same, just different lengths.
