Righto, so it could well be a case of getting 2 sets of plugs, one set for normal driving, the other set for racing.
Might look at using 6's for normal driving, and 7's for race... sound like a reasonable starting point??
I would go for the 7's. The main thing that is going to kill the plug is fouling.
If you are driving around, with a lot of stop start, then hotter plugs (like the 5's) are going to be less prone to fouling. But if you're driving a lot of freeway each day, not too much in the way of traffic, then the colder plugs are more suited. If you're tuning for power (ie a lot of rpm and boost), or if you're racing around a track, then you could go even colder again.
I think of it like dressing for the occasion - if you're going for a big run you get into shorts and a T-shirt (cold plug) and if you're sitting around in mid winter you are going to wear something a whole lot warmer.
YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

I ran 7's all of the time in my car.

Didn't bother you in heavy traffic?? This car will be a daily.

No. I was rarely in traffic though. I did commute in this car everyday too, 80+ km each way each day.

Yeah, Mackay becomes a parking lot during peak hour... takes 45 mins or more to travel less than 10kms![]()

Already got them. Paradise racing was the cheapest to get them from. Ask for a set identical to Arias job # 401793.

I am getting the bits to rebuild and turbo my 18RG. What is the latest thinking on turbos? Are the KKR turbos a good choice? I am after a set up that is biased towards torque primarily but still decent power.

in about 11 years i'll tell you if the KKR430 is any good on an 18RGTE.
... by then i might actually have it running.
In reality though, i've finally been given a green light to finish Pmp80y-mk2 - after the wedding... thanks to getting a handsome payrise and finally paying off my HECS.
I'm getting married in March 2011, honeymooning in Mexico and the Carribbean for most of April, so im hoping that by July/August 2011, the car will be running, or close to it
yay![]()
...... butt scratcher?!
Yeah the 430 seems to be the one for torque. Might have to run some numbers to see when it would run out of puff.
Green lights are goodness!

Congrats Karl, on the green light for the car and for the wedding.....
Thanks Anthony... im really looking forward to both
RA23GT - let me know what you find out about when it runs out of puff. The bottom end is built to rev out a fair bit, so keen to know if i'll eventually need a better turbo.
I would probably need to improve valve springs and the like to get decent revs first though.
