for pure street, with given constraints, I'd go for a gt35r with a .86 rear, although the 1.06 is an option (sacrificing response and low end power for a bigger top end)
Hi all,
Thanks for the responses and I'll clarify.
1. Street driven (in a merc s class)
2. Original computer with a piggyback (stage 1) - so no injector changes or any other mods
3. Most amount of power / responsiveness bearing point 2 above in mind
4. Driveability with boost around 3500 - 3800rpm due to the weight of the merc is important
5. Once I get sick of this then the only other future mods would be more power and given the size of the underbonnet space it might be a return to true twin set-up with a big secondary. But for now I need a good compromise which will work with the stock ecu.
Thanks all.

I've got a GT35r with .82 rear housing on my 1.5j. It made 510rwhp with a piggy back at 19 psi. Feels quite responsive and more than enough power on the street.
There is also a twin scroll T4 flanged 1.06 for the GT35R which may give you response somewhere between the 0.86 & 1.06 Open T3's....
Would also match up to the split pulse T4 flanged china-bay manifolds around.
Thanks lads,
I think it's looking like the GT35r 1.06 is the go as a place to start.
What about internal vs external gated?

external gate is better to control boost so i would go with that if you can.
Thanks Lads.
I've been looking online at a couple of GT35r's;
What does V band or 4 bolt mean regarding the housings? Does it matter?

its just the type of flange on the back of the turbo where dump pipe connects
4 bolt
uses 4 bolts to connect to dump
v band
uses a clamping ring to connect to dump like below
ignoring turbo size just random turbo pics
Cheers guys. Is the double exhaust housing entry above mean it's a twin scroll?
Also, does anyone know anything about the Holset Hx40's? Their compressor maps look pretty good (I think they're a diesel turbo, relatively small exhaust, huge intake) but has anyone got any experience with them?

yea the double exhaust entry is twin scroll , but its pointless if your manifold isnt made the same
, but if both manifold and turbo are made for a twin scroll setup supposedly there is good gains from it
better response and higher power= win win http://www.modified.com/tech/modp-09...ign/index.html
Hi All,
Re: my Holset question, has anyone got any experience with them?

My only experience with Holsets is that Americans seem to love them. So maybe there'd be more experience on American Supra sites... which should of course be taken with a grain of salt.
I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.
I have a HX35 (with 12cm ex.hsg) that is going onto my 1JZ.
No where near running so can not add any value to the above sorry.
maybe best place to ask information about Holset + 2JZ is www.supraclubfinland.com
Holset is most common turbo over here, in 2JZ ... Depends at powerband... HX40 super.... HX50 HX55
one shop what sell these turbos, all of these models are not available outside Finland, but can built samekind at spare parts... so some of these models are "custom built" at Holset parts in Finland
one shop what re sell those turbos http://www.kkdmotorsport.com/kauppa.php?k=1270835105
I do not have supra or 2JZ but have Holset turbo![]()
- Celica TA-22 -74 2T-G Turbo
- IQ 1.0 -09
- Lexus IS250 -06
my pick would be garrett gt37-88 similar power to t04z with quicker spool.
