I know the bellhousing on my MX73 Cressida's autobox was not removable, so it would be worth checking if you can swap bellhousings before you go any further.
Does anyone know if the 4m auto bellhousing will swap on to the rt142 overdrive auto box?
Have a mx32 with a 5m with the original 3 spd auto box behind it, and have a RT142 box in good nick, so.....
Thanks for any info you can provide.
Searched and didn't find much at all, even on the old forums.

You'd be better off using a 4-speed auto from an MA61 or MX73, it already has the correct bellhousing on it and you know it's built to handle the torque.

bellhousing looks to unbolt from the box.
the box I have is a 4spd overdrive, thougtht it'd be the same box, different bell than a 5m ma61 or mx73
i really should just find a 2j & box and put that in, but I'd sooner keep driving it whilst it has no real issues apart from fuel usage and a lack of power
Can you post a photo of the box?
(I'll post up a photo of my old MX73 autobox when I get home)

Will do tomorrow, is under a small mound of shit atm.
That would be a great help if you could post up a pic, particularly a side on pic, and also a
front on pic with the converter removed.
Thanks for the replies![]()
here's a pic in the mean time...
These photos are about 5 years old (the other box in the picture is a W50)
The autobox in the photo is an A43DE from an '86 Cressida (5MGE)

thanks for the pics, I'll drag mine out tomorrow and check it out.
certainly looks like the 5mge box has non removable bellhousing, maybe 5me box is different.
from what i read the 5m-e box in the cressidas were different to the 5mge powered ones. (the 5me box was hydraulic with an electronic controlled overdrive whereas the 5mge box was electronically controlled) (found this out after looking for the ect computer LOL the 5m-e cressidas had a A43DL in them and not the A43DE as found behind the 5mge)
cant remember if the bellhousing comes off on the other box though.

Yeah the 5M-E's definitely had the A43DL (both MX73 and MA61).
Not sure if the MX62 had a DL or just a D.
Never looked at one in the flesh though

Took a coupla pics of the box, not many no.s to read on it tho.
The blue plate on the passenger's side of the box says model 3 50.
Yeah, looks identical to the one in my photo.
I'd class that as a non-removable bellhousing, as I'm pretty sure there is a lot of gear held in that bit that unbolts.
However, I'm happy to stand corrected as I never removed the TC and looked.

yeah, I'll get better prepared for the oil that I anticipate issuing forth once I remove the convertor and take a look on the weekend.
Pretty sure the bellhousing can be removed without taking the oil pump off the front of the auto.(I've done it).
See below pic. MX62 A43D on left.
Cheers
