Only difference is the spigot bush needs to be put in for the manual and of course you need to swap the flex plate for the Flywheel. Make sure you use the rightbolts as from memory I think the flex plate used shorter bolts than the flywheel.

As already stated, the cranks are the same.

However you will need to buy and install a spigot bearing into the rear of the auto motors crank.

the entire swap is now complete... thanks to those who were able to help.

used all existing parts for the manual... are you sure i need a new spigot bearing?

it's all together now and she runs soo much better.. the old engine had major issues, besides the fact it had done well over 550,000k's... previous owners messed around with it and i kept getting oil where the spark plugs were, nothing getting into engine i dont think (no smoke out the exhaust). but anyways, was like i was running on 2 or so cylinders all the time, had to high rev it everywhere i drove and the fuel would suck down majorly... less than 200k's to a tank...

so that's the reason for the swap, i knew the other motor was good, had to replace a couple welsh plugs on the side, but all went well...

only thing now is a tune up is required, revs too high and stalls when i take my foot of the excelerator most times...

went for a run up and down the street though... sooo much better... actually got a push through every gear, and was able to spin the wheels for the first time. hehe....

but yeah, still got a bit to fiddle with in regards to the revs etc... a tune up will do it good... will get some new spark plugs in the moring and put in a new set of points as well...

i got a set of twin solex's, but i can't put them on as the manifold only suits the twincam and not the sohc engine. if anyone knows where i can get one that would be great..

    cheers

You do need a spigot bearing in the back of the crank (I 'm pretty sure it is in the back of the crank in 2T's) other wise the gearbox will destroy its self, they are designed to have a spigot bearing. Of course you do not need a new one, but for $4.50 or so when it is out and easy to get at I would have put a new one in...

Think I still have a twin weber manifold for a 2t as opposed to a2tg in the shed, will have a look and get back to you, and as Wilbo said you NEED a spigot bearing in the end of the crank, even though it appears to bolt up without one you will quickly destroy the gearbox if you haven't got one in.

wilbo666: there is one in there... it's just not new... didn't know i needed one at the time and the entire thing is completely back together now...

i guess if the gearbox stuffs up i'll know what it is... not too worried if it does, i have another 5speed sitting in the boot of my other celica. which i believe is a better one anyways.

had a mechanic mate sort out the high revs on the carby for me, all is sweet and i'm spinning the wheels in first and second gear now... lol... making up for the lost time without any power.

gonna get everything rechecked that we did by my mechanic mate next week, make sure no bolts have come undone and that everything is aok.

schnitzel: that would be great... does the webber have the same connections to the manifold as the solex's?
if so how much do you want for it?

Chances are you'll do good damage to the clutch as well as the gearbox without a spigot bearing.. so bear in mind you'll be up for a new clutch as well

Weber and solex side drafts run same bolt pattern for manifold. If i have it still and am pretty sure I do will try and dig out tomorrow. Where abouts are you as I'm in Bendigo but might be coming to melb this weekend. Also what did you do with rest of the auto car?

    sweet, that'd be great schnitzel.

I'm in geelong myself, 45 min's from melb.

the auto car is sitting without the engine and gearbox, i'm gonna do that one up once i've got the other one to the stage that I want... i'm trying to get the green 22 to be a reliable daily driver for me and my gf. (the solex's will give it enough to be respectable i hope)

once done, i will restore the gold 22.

i must say though, the swap was well and truly worth it... drives a treat... gf still getting used to having 'normal' power at the wheels... i'm finding any excuse i can to drive it. "need something from the shop?... yeah i'll get it"...
